    Default beat up by youngsters

I'm 22 years old, i've been boxing now for 2 years. Juring sparring at my gym I spar with this 15 year old kid. And he dosn't take it lightly, in fact i don't land any punches on him and he beats me up bad! Same with a few other youngsters at my gym who dance cicrcles around me, these kids have been boxing since they were 8. This is a huge blow to my self condidence if a 15 year old can beat me like that. Is this a common situation for some of you? and how do you deal with it?

    Keep sparring.

Don't let it hurt your self confidence. It's a good thing that u have more experienced people to spar with. Listen to your coach and try to correct your mistakes a little bit at a time (it does not happen over night).

U have 2 believe in yourself and your ability. Work hard (100% of yourself) and u will be OK.

Without self confidence this is the wrong sport 2 be in.

    Good luck.

Yeah, dont worry about it, give it time and you will be showing them up.

my way to get around these " dancing " type boxers is to basically use your weight to push them into a corner and go jake la motta on them and pound their stomachs with heavy hooks.

LOL I had this same problem this weekend... I finally found a buddy of mine who boxed for a little bit in a boxing club at college. I got him to spar me in my friend's living room at a LAN party we were at... I had 2 pair of gloves and 2 headgear in the car LOL...

Anyway the guy I boxed was a bit lighter than me and a lot faster, but I hit harder.

We sparred for 2 rounds while the rest of the computer nerd guys watched LOL.. they were cheering and stuff, it was great fun. The problem is we didn't have much room and I'm really new to boxing so I always ended up using my weight to try and keep him from dancing around too much and he would end up backing up into the TV or the window or the couch and it was a problem. We needed a boxing ring LOL... The guy kept complaining that there wasn't enough room for him to dance around me like he wanted to do, and he kept complaining that I was cornering him. Well la dee da, cry me a river! Anyway he got in lots of good hits and I got some in too, I think if we had been judging the fight he would have won by unanimous decision but it was kinda a close fight LOL... Neither of us was going crazy, we were just sparring, no big deal. It was fun though, my first time sparring and I was glad that I have been hitting the heavy bag, otherwise I'm sure it would have been worse. We were both tired after. Everyone said it was fun to watch us go at it.

Afterwards we put the gear on these 2 brothers who wanted to try it... now this was just stupid... They were both big tall fat guys around 330 pounds and they were just kinda pawing at each other and they kept tripping and falling down. It was great, after about 1 minute they were both on the floor gasping for air! So at least someone is more outta shape than me lol...

That experience makes me wanna find a real boxing gym to go to so I can get some instruction. For example, I noticed I wasn't fast enough to block my friend's quick hooks to the head and I also didn't know how to block uppercuts that come up between your hands when your guard is up. My friend had SOME boxing experience but he wasn't really able to tell me what I needed to do different. I need to go somewhere and get some real training.

Why do you guys even want to know how to beat these kids up? What are you going to learn by using an advantage which is completly unrelated to developing your skills?... fuck age and fuck strength the 2 aren't hard to get... These kids beat you because they have experience and have developed timing and an instictive defense. You will never learn those from throwing your weight around against little kids.

The whole point of sparring is that you learn from each other, if you tag the other guy or get him on the ropes move off, keep a bit of pressure on and see what he does. But what do you learn from keeping him trapped of beinng trapped your self? How to hit? Any one can. How to get hit? thats even easier than punching ...

your coach should make them box at your level until they feel you've developed and I don't think that a 15 year old kid even has the maturity to do this. Your coach should be putting you in with maturer more experienced people putting beginners and young kids together is a very bad idea and isn't gonna teach anybody sweet FA...

Its the same situation at our gym, except i have to spar like 22year olds, theyre the only quality sparring partners, therye bigger and heavier(im a bantam-light and thier like middleweight). Anyways i slip, parry more because they have that advantage in height weight, so im in and out. Openings close quickly.we go around 80-100% and this isnt a bad trainer this is a good trainer that lets the experienced guys like me fight like that, others slowly building up.

Anyway, move in a diagonal direction to cut off the ring, basic combo 1-2 left then right, give them something to think about when they come in.

Well, don't be too shook up about being beat by another boxer, unless you truly belileve that you will never be an effective boxer, in which case you should stop.
