Default Had a chat with Tim Witherspoon yesterday

Chatted to him on facebook about his new book "Terrible Times"

One of the nicest guys i ever met in boxing and he even remembered me and my mate having a beer with him in London after a fight night where he was in the corner for a few fighters.

Really looking forward to reading the book as it's a great story, there's obviously gonna be a huge section of his long running feud with Don King where he was shafted left right and centre for money to the point where he threw the Bonecrusher Smith 2 fight in round one just to get rid of King and his son and out of the contract they had him on.

He ended up suing King for those that didn't know and won an out of court settlement of $1 Million.

Witherspoon (Champion) should have got that amount alone for facing Bruno at Wembley Stadium in 1986 but took home only $100,000 and Bruno (challenger) walked away with nearly $2 Million.

That was just one of many times King Fucked him over through the years but he remains a happy man and there's not one ounce of bitterness in him.

Great In Depth Interview all about it

He mounted a serious comeback in the 90's... but never got his just due BECAUSE of King and boxing politics.

Witherspoon was very hot and cold from what I've seen of him.

Going off memory, the bone crusher loss seemed authentic.

It was Bonecrusher's signature victory I believe.

I'm not calling Tim a fibber (liar) but a few factors that may measure that a false statement

Tim looked in shape and if he had won he would have secured a multi million $ fight with Mike Tyson

I also would have given Tim a better chance against Tyson than Bone Crusher

Job Biscuit (would of been a good fight)!!!

    eh eh!!

Tim sounds like a intelligent and genuinely nice guy when I have heard him during interviews. He was robbed by Don King but he does not sound bitter about it. He also implies he threw away the fight against Bonecrusher because of King.

He was one of the decent fighters that never fought a prime Tyson.

I totally agree with this , no way would he have thrown the fight and not got his chance against Tyson.
I always believed Witherspoon would have given Tyson a better fight than people like Smith , Tubbs , Thomas , Briggs ETC.
Fighters are usually in denial when they talk about their careers .

Not only boxers, most everybody is in denial about some part of their lives, so I agree with you.
When Don King first entered boxing I think he was good for it, he was a character and generated a lot of interest. I don't know about the rest of you but he had me fooled, before the monster was revealed.
Don King, a first class predator, with the heart and soul of a man-eating leopard. Mr King would probably take that last statement as a compliment, when it comes to business, that's just who he is.

As bad as King was Holmes and Tim do not say too many bad things about him. They were thankful of the opportunity he gave them. Even Tyson.
