Default ran out of gas at provincials:(

i competed this weekend at the provincials in calgary. i fight at 81kg and always run into taller fighters. i myself am only 5'8". i went against a guy today who was 5 kilos lighter and 9 inches taller. i was ahead 16-9 in the second round but ran out of gas in the third.it was the busiest fight i have ever been in so far(i have had 5 fights previous- {4-1}). i ended up losing the fight 25-21. he just went all out in the last 30 seconds of the third round and i had nothing left. i guess itr back to the gym to work on my cardio.

And your game plan, I fight in the same division, if I get a short stocky fighter I will just let them punch themself out (helps that I can just about cover my head and most of my body at the same time), I try and score counters so the points gap isn't too big and work the body to slow the man down, when they tire I step it up because they are to tired to defend or trade.

You need to be looking to get inside there range, scoring a few shots, go for the body to slow them down and then get out of range so they have to chase you to score the points back and you can get them coming in and off balance.

i hear what your saying adam. i am pretty much an inside fighter. i do throw a lot of body shots on the taller fighters due to the torso space they allow. i just ran out of energy. i am going to increase my sparring sessions and my cardio work.

What you have to do is work within your limits, pacing your self in teh gym is wrong, but in the ring its a different matter. If you'd thrown less shots in the first two rounds you may not have been miles ahead but would of had the gas to maintain the lead.

The Mistake most fighters make is they get inside and blast away at there man but never take a look at there work, if its not hurting him as much as its tiring you out and he is defending well don't stay there as long, score your points and get out. if he's tired go to work on him but make sure you've got the energy to outlast him.

Nice to hear your straight back in the gym... CC

you got the idea son. sorry to hear about your problem... good luck with the next one. start running some fuck off stupid distances, or sparring and hitting the bags for double rounds.
if you can feel the fitness and power slipping, i go for stoppage. just give it everything, completely overwhelm him and get a stoppage... most of the time the amatuer refs will just stop it.

^^ this advice will go down like a lead baloon with some of the members here... its the way i fight

Couldn't agree more Alex, this one ref up my way gives 1 standing count and thats it, any more trouble and he's TKOed. He reffed my last fight against the big tall kid and I knew his gym didn't do the type of conditioning we do so I threw caution to the wind, came forwards moving my head and got inside his jab (the only one he threw... :P) I threw a hard shot at his head to bring the gloves up so I could throw some hooks to the body (my best shots)... I was expecting to hit a glove but I got him bang... right on the temple and knocked him out, nearly got disqualified though because I already had a left hook loaded up to throw to the body (threw a right hook to the head) and because the ropes stopped him falling quickly I threw 1-2 shots when he was down... Can't imagine how pissed I would of been if he'd got the decision for it...
