I will preface this post by stating that I think Joe Calzaghe is the greatest fighter of all time. The speed, the chin, the output, the desire to win. He was exceptional.
I watched Pacquaio against Diaz the other day and was pleasantly surprised to see Manny as an all round fighter. He could throw a hundred punches a round, throw from all angles, throw punches as though auditioning for a ballet performance. It was beautiful and I felt a real sadness for David Diaz who admitted in his corner that he couldn't deal with the speed.
Calzaghe was the best fighter in the world at that time and suddenly Manny was fighting like Joe Calzaghe. It was a different Manny. It also made me think a lot about Calzaghe/Hopkins due to this weekends fight. The smaller man against the bigger man. The so called technician against the high output fighter. Both at the end of their careers.
In some strange way, Manny is a reflection of the all time great Joe Calzaghe. By following the Calzaghe blueprints, Manny can beat Floyd Mayweather.
