I'm coughing up blood

Right. Last week, I was sick with a sore throat and fever and whatnot, and on towards the weekend, I started getting better, and that's when I nose got all runny and stuffy, and I started coughing. Well, as of this morning, I noticed that when I cough up mucus, there's blood in it! When it's just a dry cough (no mucus coming up), there's no blood. But whenever I hack up a lot of snot, there's blood in it! It's not a whole lot of blood, and I don't feel like I'm about to drown inside my lungs or anything (bleeding inside the lungs), plus a co-worker told me it was just sinuses, and they could do that (which it probably is). However, it HAS gone on all day. So, should I wait and see if the bleeding stops, or is it time to head for the emergency room??

id. definately see a doctor. it could just be sinuses...but theres always that wut if.

Yes, if tomorrow it hasn't stopped, I'm off to the doc.

I've been browsing the net, and I think I just ruptured a blood vessel from violent coughing, because, although I was fairly sick, I was only sick for two days and didn't have real bad kneumonia or bronchitis or anything, so maybe if I try to go without coughing too much, it'll just heal itself?

i dont know man....hmmm, i wouldn't worry about it too much.
But do go see a doctor though, just to be certain.

it should clear up in a week, but thats what i do, go to the docters if your not sure.

Well that's what I'm a doin. : But I've heard people say that it can be a lot more serious than one might think it is, even if it's not that much...

if its just light speckles in the mucus then dont worry, your just coughing too hard and rupturing a capillary (tiny blood vessels) in the lungs, wind pip or throat...

if there is alot of blood (enough to fill a tea spoon) then go to your doctors

Haha...you must have whatever I have right now. I'd had it for about two weeks, finally kicked it, but then it reappeared a week later(Friday). Its apparently just the current Flu strain or something, but god does it bite the big one. I cant talk at all cuz I've coughed my throat completely raw (with the blood in my mucus and whatnot), and I cant get any sleep unless I'm medicated cuz of the coughing. It's terrible, but I got a feelin its on its way out Best of luck!

On a side note, I blew my nose this morning and the biggest, thickest boogey I've ever seen came out... :P

Had blood in it, but it was just from my nose... :P

Thanks for the info, guys. Been coughing a bit more today, but there wasn't as much blood. Last night, I tried to go without coughing so that my ruptured capillary (or whatever it's called) could heal, and I think/hope that's done the trick.

Are you sure its not just phlegm from your nose running down to the lining of your throat? If you've ever been hit properly on the nose before its not rare to find abit of blood in your snot for weeks to come... :P

Man,coughing up blood can be a really serious symptom,get it checked out asap. I was reading a medical book just now and you really do not want to know what kinds of things can be related to coughing up blood!!1

I had the same thing this winter. It wasn't anything serious.

If it persists and you're nervous, get it checked if it will help you sleep at night.

For an update on why I coughing up blood, apparently I have severe bronchitis....awesome. May have done some irrepairable damage to my esophagus. Yes...it's as fun as it sounds. Even better news is that I only had to spend 100 bucks on medications to get rid of it

Are you sure its not just phlegm from your nose running down to the lining of your throat? If you've ever been hit properly on the nose before its not rare to find abit of blood in your snot for weeks to come... :P

That could be it also, although I haven't been hit in the nose. :P
