The odds are that GGG takes on Taureno Johnson in February, and Canelo takes on a name in the WBC top 15 ranking other than Lemiuex, Jikam or Eubank Jr. sometime in early March for a tune up.
Then by June we will have GGG vs. Canelo. It may not be able to make Cinco De-Mayo, but if we want to see it at it's prime best, May would not be a good time for either of them to get into the ring.
Canelo would not want to take on GGG right after Cotto for the February slot. Unless they BOTH decide to wait, make the fight for May now, and then have everyone on pins and needles.
It's going to be a longer-than-usual layoff for GGG. But what else could there be?
I say: Both have tune ups in February (for GGG) and early March (for Canelo) and the showdown happens in June/July. For something like this, I do not feel as if Cinco De Mayo matters because it is going to be HUGE regardless of the date. People are going to want to see it....
