    Default GGG's Next Opponent

Billy Joe took to twitter with a message for GGG.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/BKN3W0yAWrr/

With his refusal to fight GGG before, perhaps GGG's street style no respect approach towards Brooks gave Billy Joe the inspiration to fight him and make it happen.

Also Jacobs calling for GGG after his fight, and this follows

Golovkin's Promoter Looks To Jacobs - as WBA Orders The Fight! - Boxing News

WBA orders a mandatory title defence for GGG against Jacobs, hopefully they can work that into a unification bout.

So with titleholders previously refusing to fight GGG, now they're declaring they are willing to fight. Of course I'm excited for either one of these, but I been around long enough to know I'll believe it when it's signed and they're in the ring.

If it's with Jacobs (unification or not), I think GGG will break him down with the jab the way he did against Lemieux, KO in the 8th. With Saunders, it'll take a while to catch him but after some accumulated body work and consistent pressure, he'll finish him in the 10th or 11th.

Looks like he's finally getting those big drama shows

Jacobs and not sure he makes the breakdown point. He'll have to go right after Golovkin from first bell for a chance. Like the comeback and fun fighter but honestly don't think Jacobs even sponges what Brook did.

I would rather him fight Jacobs because Jacobs seems like a nice enough guy and has been in need of a big fight. Saunders blatantly ducked him so I would rather him not get the fight.

It SHOULD be Canelo, should have always been Canelo but he's not going to take the fight.

With that being the case his options at Middle are: Jacobs, Eubank Jr., and BJS.

At Supermiddle: Ward, Ramirez, De Gale

.....and of course there's always the hope that Floyd Mayweather Jr. decides now is the time to fight GGG but that is never going to happen

Why Canelo? Why should the MW champion fight the 4th or 5th best Jr MW?

Golovkin needs to fight someone on his level. If he can't find it at MW he should move up.

Jacobs doesn't box well enough though. GGG is head and shoulders above anyone at 160. Been saying this since before he was even a champ. That's why people think I am a detractor, because I want him to challenge himself.

So who are the 3-4 people ahead of Canelo at Jr. Middle?

Why should GGG move up, Hopkins didn't move up when he couldn't find a true middleweight to fight did he? Hopkins is a great fighter right? I think he's a great fighter, his record shows he was a great middleweight champion...why not go the Hopkins route? Especially since Andre Ward, the ONLY guy at 168 worth moving up for has gone to 175 to fight Kovalev? Are you suggesting GGG move to 175? I mean I guess he could add that kind of mass, but it'll take maybe 2 years for him to really truly be a 175 fighter.

On belts it's just BJS and Jacobs left at 160.

GGG vs Canelo is a big match providing Canelo beats Liam Smith (another potential opponent if he was to beat Canelo). As far as money, fan interest, etc goes there's no bigger match for GGG than Canelo, bar Mayweather Jr and that fight simply will never happen ergo GGG vs Canelo is the fight that SHOULD happen.

We've been here before, many times, and I kind of agree with you. If he doesn't get Jacobs (fuck BJS or Eubank, they had their chance.) he should go up, BUT Who is he gonna fight?
Jack and Degale - supposedly tied up.
Ramirez - don't know what his situation is. Does he want it ? Can the fight be made?
Smith or Groves - fun fights , but they're not champions.
    Ward - is a LHW.
not swimming with options is he ?

I would like to see Eubank v GGG as he has a strong chin I think it would make a very entertaining fight.
Jacobs doesn't have the whiskers to beat GGG.

Plus one for the Eubanks jnr fight.

Eubanks is a better fighter and that loss to BJS will propel him.

Andrade would beat Canelo without a doubt. I forget which Charlo is the good one but he would beat Canelo too. J-Rock might beat him, Lara might beat him, he'll the other Charlo might beat him. There is a reason Canelo went to 155, to ravoid the best guys at 154. If he was at 154 he'd become a mandatory to one of the guys that would beat him. There is a reason they chose Liam Smith. It is not a coincidence they chose the perceived weakest champion, they don't want Canelo to lose.

As for all the talk talk talk about championships, they only matter to historians. In truth all that matters is who you fight. Hopkins isn't a legend because of his defenses against shlubs. He's a legend for who all he fought wins and loses. All the excuses in the world and all the title defenses don't change the fact that GGGs ledger is crap. Where is his great fight? When will it come? The answer is when he fights someone on his level. If he needs to go to 170 to get a good fight he should do it. The dude is 34 years old and his best opponent is a WW that moved up on 2 months notice. A WW that himself had only ever fought one good fighter. I don't want GGG to retire and think "I thought you were great but I have no f'n clue because your ledger is shit". Years ago I said this man was special, I want to know if I was right.

I'd favor GGG and his punching power (23 straight wins by KO) over the other 160 title holders ; Daniel Jacobs 32-1 (29 KO), Billy Joe Saunders 23-0 (12 KO) or Chris Eubank Jr. 23-1 (18 KO).... GGG said in his post fight interview that he'd go back to the UK to fight BJS and I think that's where the money would be too.... Eubank Jr. already priced himself out of a fight w/ GGG.... However, I think potentially the most exciting fight would be Jacobs vs GGG....

    Just my take....

This is all well and good if you're trying to justify GGG As an ATG, but who's trying to do that? He's a good champ, easily the best of his division, who may be capable of going up a division, but nowadays it's easy to avoid someone.
Technically he has his faults and due to the lack of opposition, will never be seen as an ATG.
Not everybody can be an ATG.
