    Default Cotto-Malignaggi

Anybody else thinking Malignaggi could pull the upset? I'm thinking that more and more

Just not a great style for Cotto to deal with, because of Cotto's footwork and Malignaggi's footspeed, I think he could turn Cotto all night, and beat him to the punch.

Question is does he fold the first time Cotto cracks him. I don't think he'll get hit that often but can he take what comes his way. I don't really know what to expect, I could see a Cotto KO in less than 6 but I could see Paulie winning a fairly lopsided decision too.

I'm sure people will say I'm overrating Paulie, its not really that, I don't even like him and I'll be rooting for Cotto, its the style and the quick feet and hands he's got that makes me think he might pull the upset. I'm gonna check the odds, I've yet to bet on boxing but I might if its like 3 or 4-1. Malignaggi can win if he turns Cotto and beats him to the punch, he could frustrate Miguel and just be too fast.

Paulie could definately pull the upset. He's got the speed to out-point and stay away. I'm pulling for Cotto simply for the fact that against the other top guys{Hatton,Corrales,Castillo}, I feel Cotto would make a more exciting fight.

I've gotta think at some point Cotto's gonna find him and really check that chin and my gut tells me Paulie can't take it, BUT if it ends up looking like Calzaghe-Lacy I really won't be all that surprised 'cuz Paulie does have skills.

If I force myself to pick (and I always do) I've gotta take Cotto by late KO/stoppage.

Malignaggi has the speed and ring generalship to make Cotto look robotic. That being said paulie has some flaws that Cotto can exploit if he trains right. Team Cottos probably under the assumption that somewhere sometime in the fight, Miguels gonna walk Paulie down and catch him and that malignaggi wont be able to withstand the abuse (they're probably looking at the body). They figure the more time Paulie spends with his back against something, throwing punches with nothing on them... is one step closer to him getting knocked out. Miguel should work on his head movement rather than just covering up. I would see if i couldget some fast quick guys in there to spar with.. maybe someone like Logan or Quick little guy like Gainer to get him use to the movement and punches coming out of nowhere.

If Malignaggi work runs stops sticks and clinches, he might be able to pull off a victory. My guess is he would still get robbed anyway if he wins by a point. He should make sure his ring generalship is as sharp as possible and keeping his hands and arms close to his body. Get him to spar with a guy like who will just follow him around and try to cut off the ring .. (maybe like and emmanual clottey... not terribley fast or cagey but a stalker none the less)
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.

I don't think he needs to run all night, he'll need to move some but more than that he needs to beat Cotto to the punch and then turn him, just move to the side, not straight back. Cotto's not the quickest guy on his feet, he can be out manuevered IMO. The thing is (and I hate to quote Teddy Atlas but I think it applies to this fight) Cotto can make some mistakes and get away with it, Paulie probably won't be able to get away with it, he really needs to minimize his mistakes.

Personally...I think that Paulie is pretty amazing...he's just such a turd.

As far as him pulling off an upset...I don't think so...I mean anything is possible...but all Cotto has to do is land one or two of those left hooks to the body...that'll slow Paulie down & ruin his footwork.

This fight could become Calzaghe Lacy becasue of the styles

    BUT...BUT....

it could also become Byrd Ibeubuchi.

    Way to hedge your bet

Kidding, I feel the same way, although I don't think it would be near as brutal as Calzaghe-Lacy even if Paulie wins, but I could see Paulie outquicking him for a relatively easy decision, or I could see a Cotto KO. Not sure what to expect but I wouldn't be shocked if Paulie won.

Like I said...Cotto's gonna have to catch him...& it's not going to be anything like Mayweather Gatti...because unlike Gatti...Cotto can actually box.

Anyone who looks back at about Cotto's 12th fight or so to about his 20th...he boxes & he's smooth.

When he started grandstanding on HBO & in front of the hometown crowd is when he got careless. He started believing in the hype & in the idea of trying to take Tito's place...& that fwocked him.

He get's back to basics...he's gonna be fine...but I do see Paulie giving him some issues.

I agree that Cotto can box, the only thing I see is he seems to be a better boxer on his back foot, when somebody's pressuring him, then when he's coming forward. He tends to get a bit reckless at times when he's coming forward, or at least lately he has. Not that I think Paulie has the power to really make him pay but I do think he can possibly outbox him. I don't know why, I just have had a feeling since this fight that Cotto could have some real problems with Paulie's style. Its the styles I think, I think Hatton would KO Paulie, and I think that Cotto could possibly beat Hatton cause Cotto's good when somebody's pressuring him, but I think Paulie could give Cotto some real problems, if that makes sense.

Therefore, because I think Paulie might win, Cotto will probably walk through him and destroy him

Sounds like somebody's got the same prediction problems that Wacko's got!

Got you back, Its the upsets, my upset picks are always horrible, I'm actually in second place in the predictions contest (shameless plug) but my upset picks are always horrible. I still cringe at the thought that I believed that Robin Reid was too experienced and crafty for Lacy. Horrible.

Therefore my upset pick for Paulie is probably wrong
