    Default Winky v Calzaghe

I just read an interview with Winky and he fancies getting it on with Joe in the future.

I honestly believe it will be a similar outcome to the Lacy fight, Soliman gave Winky fits because of his volume of punches and movement.

I would advise to stay away from a southpaw who is bigger quicker and more powerful, i think it is a bad match up for Winky.

    ?

how could it resemble the lacy fight when winky will actually use defense and jab

calzaghe has no chance against wright, and he knows that, if he didnt we wouldnt be hearing about jones and toney

Did you see the Soliman fight??

Calzaghe would counter the defense with him being a southpaw, he would murder Winky. Well Winky is not a big draw, Calzaghe is to big for Winky Wright i will have any money you want in the world that Joe smashes Winky.

I don't think Joe is too big... Wright walks around pretty damn heavy. He is a big guy.

Calzaghe is a 14 stone 6 ft man he has operated at 168 lbs all his professional life over ten years.

Winky Wright has fought all his proffesional career at 154 lbs and is 5 ft 9. Winky hasnt even experienced fighting the elite at 160.

    Who has the size advantage??

I don't know... according to boxing rec Winky is 5'10.5 with a 72 inch reach. Joe is 5'11.5 with a 73 inch reach. Not much of an advantage there.

I'm not saying Winky would kill Joe. But I think we would have a competitive fight. Two men who have an invincible aura around them duking it out. I wouldn't mind seeing this.

yeah i think it would be a good fight to happen, Wright doesn't have the power to hurt Calzaghe so its a matter of would his defence be good enough to stop Calzaghe's onslaught and how he'd handle the power
at 160, I'd recon JC by ud but i would'nt like to bet against Winky also, he proved me way wrong in the Tito fight

Wright couldnt handle Simons volume and couldnt take Vasquez' power . They were light middleweights . Joe is a huge heavy hitting supermidle so Joe would be out of his depth .

I cant see how Winky stands a chance

Winky fought differently back then, which is why he got dropped so many times in that fight but showed great heart and determination to keep getting back up. Also,Vazquez had awesome power. Now,Winky has the best defence and jab period. I leanrt my lesson betting against Winky from the Tito fight!!! Also, against Soliman,it was well documented that Wright had flu and had it been any other man,the fight would not have gone ahead.

I saw the Soliman fight--it was incredibly lopsided. Soliman landed about 5% of his weak arm-punches and almost fell down without even getting hit a few times. I don't understand how that's a precedent for Winky losing to someone.

sorry but Winky is made for Joe, if he keeps the pressure on Winky.....Joe wins
And that's exactly what Joe is going to do
it depends who controls the pace

My bad, I keep forgetting Joe is the bigger man! That would obviously be a big factor.

I think Winky could beat Calzaghe by purely being defensive and countering.

I don't think the Soliman fight means a damn thing Winky was sick for gods sake every break between rounds he was heaving up snot into a bucket, and he looked like shit.. But still Soliman could do anything.. I do think Calzaghe would win this though, he's just too big and fast, but he would definetly have to fight a smart fight, anyone does agaisnt Winky.. The thing is Wright couldn't hurt Joe AT ALL... So he would really have to box perfectly, which is hard with the volume of punches Calzaghe throws, but at the same time I think Wright would have alot of oppourtunites to counter becaue of that. But if Joe was smart like I said, and just went up and down, in and out, side to side and just kept throwing, he would win on points. If rounds are even close with Winky the judges pretty much dont give it to him, because he does so little offensively. How else do you explain the Soliman fight being scored so close. Also it occurs to me that Winky was Lacy's sparring partner for months before the Calzaghe fight, and I would bet that neither of them were expecting that from Calzaghe, although I always thought they were botth southpaws but thats absolutely it, and Lacy should have found a different guy to prepare him since Winky and Joe fight nothing alike. But anyways my point is that Lacy was probably competitive against Winky simply due to his size and power, Joe would be too much alltogether I think. I mean really, the biggest guy Winkys ever fought were light middles, and Trinidad was his best at that or welterweight.. I say wait until Winky fights Taylor then we'll have an idea of how he could do against Joe, or how Taylor would for that matter.
