Just came across this Howard Cosell clip
What do you guys think? Any other athlete past or present who would have made a good boxer?

I do not know if it was Wilt Chamberlain or another tall athlete in the 1970's that wanted to go into boxing. Anyway the story goes that he was sparring with Joe Frazier and landing a few jabs on him. He made one mistake and Joe was about to land that "left hook" but just stopped before it would land and smiled at him. I do not think that person boxed again.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
Jack Hurley started the whole conversation about Chamberlin becoming a boxer. During the 1950s, the Globetrotters were being managed by an old boxing guy and he hired other old boxing promoters to do the advance pr work for the team.
When the boxing game was slow Jack Hurley did two seasons promoting the Globetrotters, one of those being the season Chamberlain played for them. Hurley knew nothing about basketball but he had great relations with sportswriters from his years in boxing (44 in 1959). He would do interviews and talk about how he wanted to make Chamberlin the heavyweight champion of the world.
I remember reading about this in 5th grade which was about 1975
"Timber!"
(look it up)
If God wanted us to be vegetarians, why are animals made of meat ?
When he slapped his hand and Wilt just turned. "I turn real easy...till U sign the paper" Convinced me, he may have been brought down to size: That was the response of a man with fear IMO.
All's lost! Everything's going to shit!
"This is belittling to me"
Reach don't mean nothin'
Put his hands on him, talked shit from beginning to end. & I loved it!

I'm sure plenty of basketball players could have been great boxers if they chose that life and had the intangibles. It's rare that guys so long and tall have the right kind of mechanics, but that's the norm in the NBA. As to speculating who would have been any good though, who knows.
