Default Hamzah Sheeraz v Edgar Berlanga

Hamzah Sheeraz will take on Edgar Berlanga on Saturday, July 12th, 2025, at Louis Armstrong Stadium, Queens. The fight will be contested over 12 rounds in the Middleweight division.

In his last fight, Sheeraz was fortunate to draw Carlos Adames on February 22, 2025, by split draw in their 12 round contest in their WBC World Middleweight championship fight at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

At first I thought Berlanga was getting the best of Hamzah at the earlier press confreneces but from this face off I think Sheeraz will win.

Also on the undercard will be Shakur Stevenson's and William Zepeda's fight for the WBC World Lightweight championship, Alberto Puello's and Subriel Matias' contest for the WBC World Super Lightweight belt, and David Morrell's and Imam Khataev's bout.

Wait a minute, so you base your view on who wins a fight on who does best in press conferences and Face offs? ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

I have been watching the promotional events and interviews. Berlanga is certainly an eccentric character and did seem to rattle Hamzah at the earlier events. Really Edgar is delusional and has a self inflated ego of himself.

I've got two compatriots fighting in that card: Berlanga and Matias.

I haven't kept up with Berlanga, other than his ill-fated fight against Canelo, which they tried to push as a legitimate PR-Mexico rivalry contest. I always maintained that it was Canelo as usual looking for the easy payday, since Berlanga is nowhere near his league. Still... Edgar did his best and actually didn't embarrass himself. I think they did Berlanga a disservice with all the hype surrounding his 1-round knockout streak at the beginning of his career. He became full of himself... and unfortunately it appears to continue being the case. I'm not a fan of Berlanga's overly inflated sense of self. Let's see how this fight plays out.

Matias is another story. I was fortunately able to watch his last fight live here on the island. I've always been a big fan, although fully aware of his defensive shortcomings. He had his own streak going at one time. One in which several opponents in a row called it quits in the ring. Then he suffered his first loss. I suspect he's the underdog in this upcoming fight against Puello... but I'll be rooting for him. I'm still of the opinion that is given the chance, he takes Richardson Hitchins apart. Which I believe is a big reason Hitchins has apparently been reluctant to face him. Let's also see how THIS fight plays out.

Might try to catch this as it's a solid card but the continual PPV and even 60 for this is absolutely insane. In the meantime, DAZN gives us random low level type cards scattered at various times for price of monthly fee. Solid card but tbh Berlanga belongs nowhere near PPV and is the only guy I've seen celebrate a clear loss like he just won a unification. Literally both he and Sheeraz are coming off what were actual 'losses' ffs . But of boxing is where it is these days. Even though he's moving up I think Sheeraz will reignite his inner fire and fight a very smart fight likely to a decision vs Berlanga. Puello v Matias is nice, heart says Matias puts it all together and may just get Puello out late. Brain says Puello makes it spoily ugly but finds many southpaw openings to score win. Stevenson v Zepeda glad it's happening. I've never been a big Shakur fan but do think he's catching too many random stray from fans, promoters and now even Turki with all the too defensive needs a smaller ring stuff. Seems to be a growing simple type of thinking that a fighter looking to move and box a guy's ears being defensive minded in the process somehow translates to runner. Lost is the responsibility and expectation of a supposed offensive fighter to be able to effectively cut a ring down and cut the man off. It's like an afterthought . All the best pressure and volume fighters achieved it at high levels. If a guy wants to put on a mobile boxing clinic and is actually able too as 'the better' fighter, it's his fight to fight. As a fan it's root for the pressure guy or just not be keen on seeing a mover fight and watch something else. That said I like Shakur over 12 . I think he's been consciously working on getting more physical...some say chippy and or dirty...but you could see it in the Padley fight and with Harutyunyan he was cagey in spots inside and used his arms, shoulders a lot. Early rounds will be truth tellers for him. If Zepeda can ding him what is Shakur's instinct and pattern. But also saw Farmer drop and repeatedly catch Zepeda with same shots over 22 rounds and no doubt Shakur went to study on them too. Good to see Morrell back also, on paper it looks a decent fight for a return. Also like to see where he is now post Benavidez and that brutal fight.
