The good Dr makes a fair point, this division does lack quality, but that does not mean there is nothing to debate.Originally Posted by New Wind
I think Calzaghe is by far the class of the division; but after that, it is very intresting to see who should be rated #1 contender to Joe.
Kessler has a statsically impressive record, but lacks the quality of opposition. Beyer is very flaky, Lacy looked to have the class, but the Calzaghe fight, showed his limitations.
I would put Kessler #1 contender, but that is purely by default, because everyone else has shown big flaws, while Kessler still has his '0'. But I have my doubts as to weather he is a legitmate top three fighter, even at Super Middleweight....![]()
Britkid, how is you able to say that Kessler lacks quality of opposition, please take a look of his resume. Kessler has beaten the Ring's no. 2 at home and the Ring’s no. 3 abroad. Actually that is more than Calzaghe has done so far. Gary Shaw promoted Lacy with poor boxers and made a lot of money doing it, but the truth is that every time Lacy faced just a little competition he struggled. Kessler has never lost a pro round on all the judges’ scorecards and he won the EU championship against the strong Eastern boxers. Do not fail in Kessler.Originally Posted by Britkid
That just shows you how weak the division is; Kessler beats the fighters rated 2 and 3 according to the Ring, and yet is still unproven.Originally Posted by New Wind
You beat the #2 and #3 ranked fighters at 130, you are beating a Morales or a Pacquiao; you beat a #2 or #3 ranked 147lber, you are beating a Hatton or Mayweather; you beat a #2 or #3 ranked Super Middleweight you are beating a Manny Siaca or a Dingaan Thobela...
I THINK MANFREDO, WIN OR LOSE, ASUMING HE TAKES A CALZAGHE FIGHT WILL IMPRESS ALL OF YOU SEEING HE HAS NOW HAD ROACH AS HIS TRAINER FOR SOME TIME NOW... HE WAS EXTREMELY LIMITED WITH HIS FATHER AS HIS TRAINER AND HAD HIT A WALL AS WE SAW ON THE CONTENDER. I DONT THINK PEMBERTON WAS ANY BEROMETER OF WHERE HE STANDS BEING HE WAS A SHOT, DOWNSLIDING CONTENDER. HE SHOWED MUCH IMPROVEMENT AND AS MUCH AS I THINK CALZAGHE CAN AND SADLY PROBABLY WILL BEAT HIM I THINK HE WILL SHOW SOME IRON THAT ALOT OF SKEPTICS HAVENT SEEN YET... WE FORGET THAT AS A PRO HE HAS NEVER BEEN KNOCKED DOWN AND HE HAS FOUGHT WARRIORS LIKE THE DURABLE FRANKIE RANDALL AND SUCH... I DONT THINK HE'S NEAR CALZAGHES CLASS BUT I THINK HE COULD MAKE IT AN ENJOYABLE FIGHT AND RAISE PEOPLES OPPINIONS OF HIM![]()
