It's a hard thing to watch...Sad part is many of his friends who r or were fighters won't see him...I did an interview with his sister once freelancing she is a saint...You could not find a better woman...She cares for him day to day from sun up to sun down....I tried to explain to her how fighters think...It bothers them more because it could be them in the same place...Boxing is a rough sport..people claim they know this and act as though it is only common sense seeing how you hit each other for a living..this though really puts it in perspective...Gerald was a real warrior and deserves more recognition and support from the game he gave so much to and got so little back once he couldn't be a major player...

I just read a book about him, War Baby by Kevin Mitchell, It's a very sad story. He got $62 grand for that last fight after various deductions, which is ridiculous considering how big a match it was. Apparently Don King did some devious stuff to con him out of $250,000, pretty heartless when the guys in a coma. Honestly is Don King really in great need of a few thousand dollars?

Ive read that book too - ages ago - I thought the reason Benn had never been to see him was McClellans sister said she wants nothing to do with Benn and would never forgive him?

Benn was never the same mentally in the ring after that fight. I can't even imagine the torture he goes through knowing what he did to that guy, even though he didn't do it intentionally, but i don't know if i could go and see the g-man if it was me who done it to him...

can you imagine going there, looking at him, his kids, his family - all the while knowing 'it was me who done this' f**** that; thats a one way ticket to suicide ville right there

I'm not saying its right or wrong benn hasn't gone and seen him, but people deal with their problems in different ways - and you could see the way benn was in the ring after that fight; it changed him dramatically.

It is a shame really that some of boxings greats never got together to do a one night PPV show, maybe after they had retired, an exabition night 'unificial' ranked fights - with all the proceeds going to people like the g-man, and familis who last fathers, husbands, brothers in the ring - after all it only takes one punch for and that could be anyone one of them...

    Hats off to RJJ though...
