Default Body getting cut but too skinny and need to get bigger. How and best way ?

Ok so I started training about three months ago, I run 2 miles a day in the morning and do around 150 pushups and 300 bicycle crunches throughtout the day before the gym. At the gym I work with my trainer, A typical day includes (3 rounds of jumprope, 3 rounds of shadow, 3 rounds doublend bag, 30min working with trainer on punch mitts, 6 rounds heavy bag, 3 rounds speed bag, and then some ab work with 12lb medicine ball). After training I hang around for a little bit and lift weights, but I really don't know what I'm doing. I am 6foot2 and weigh 170lbs, My body is starting to get cut, but I need to put on some mass in my upper body because I am to skinny. I have heard so many things from eating upwards of 3000 calories to eating more carbs, I am just afraid to make the wrong decision, It seems that all my fat goes to my stomach and since I'm starting to get a six pack I don't want to screw that up. Also any advice on supplements ? I don't take anything right now. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey bro,CC for joining the best boxing website in the world.PERIOD. I am no expert but aving read responses from AdamGB and GreyNotSold(the main men here who know everything about everything),the question would be why you want to put on weight? Being bigger and muscular in boxing is not really the way to go,it'll slow you down and is not practical. Also, you talk about 6 pacs(which are great for the chicas) BUT have no relevance in boxing, there's guys without 6 pacs that I know who could rip me apart!! You need that type of calorie intake if you want to be some type of body builder, not for boxing, you should be focusing on fuelling your body with carbs from foods like pasta, cereals, bread, rice etc.
As for supplements, there are always debates as to whether they are actually beneficial(I'm guessing you are referring to protein ones?),I'll let someone more experienced answer.
Sorry if I'm not much help,I'm just started training etc and just wanted to put my little knowledge into effect. How did I do guys(Adam/grey?)

#1 Figure out what you want to do with your body

You want a six pack but dont want to lose weight, sorry but thats a contradiction in terms... to show your abs you need to lower the body fat % down to around 8% for the whole 6 pack. You cannot dictate where you lose the layers of fat from (enter the realms of genetic tendancies) and its a case of playing with the hand you were dealt.

If your thinking that your too skinny then you needed to of added some muscle size before you went on a 'cut'

Figure out what you want to do, you cannot lose bodyfat and gain size at the same time...it is feasible but nigh on impossible for someone of your training experiance (from what i've gathered from your post).

If you want to put mass on, put it on evenly, training just your upper body looks retarded and i'm not joking when i say that people will laugh at you when you put on shorts

To stop yourself losing weight you need to up the calories above the level that your burning, i'm not saying to go nuts... raise your calories by 200 each week and after 2 weeks monitor your look in the mirror rather than on the scales. Weighing scales does not differentiate between muscle gain and fat gain

Supplements? In you case....food, from quality sources and no junk

good points there, not really much more I can say... if the kid really wants to put on Muscle Gutshot is the guy to talk too... our resident nutritionalist... :P

I will basiclly repeat what you've said, why do you want to gain weight? As it stands at 6 foot 2 and 170 pounds you could probably do with putting on a bit more weight but if its a struggle put any sort of weight on you're probably better off stick to where you are natural.

Instead of looking in the mirror or worrying about not filling the arms out on your T shirt, worry about how you feel in the gym, if you feel like you can gain weight with out slowing up do it, but do it slowly and clean and if your having to eat insane amounts of food to gain, stop. You've found the limits of you're natural weight.

Body building is about adding unatural weight to your frame, boxing is about performance.

As for your six pack, don't worry about it... :P Mine comes and goes all year round but what does stay are a set of powerfull, effecient abs... you can always see them but only if I let my fat get low I get a 'six pack'... but that doesn't mean that when theres a bit more fat on my abs that they're any weaker.

Oh and as gut says, but the weight on all over... legs are more important to a boxer then arms anyway plus the fact that 'Chicken legs' just make you look weird and the bigger your upperbody is compared to them, the funnier :P

Ok, thanks for all the info, I don't even know how to go on a cut, so if I did I don't know how. I want to get bigger but not huge, I know being big in boxing is not ideal, but seriously if I got hit in the chest I might die...(ok, maybe not die but it will hurt a lot because there is not much bulk muscle there) I am willing to sacrifice my sixpack for some bulk as long as I can get it back. Should I maybe focus one or two days on just weight training ? And about the calorie intake, How do I figure out how much I am burning, and tell me if I am understanding this correct, If I take more calories than I am burning this will turn into muscle mass and not fat ? because the way I am understanding it if I take more calories in and work out more than they would cancel each other out right ? I am still a little confused. Just to give you a little more idea of what results I am looking for, My body looks kinda like Diego Corrales and I what to look like Bernard Hopkins. Thanks for all the help, I am so glad I found this forum...

What do you want more, the six pack or to add some mass to your frame?

Well cant I work on mass now and forget about the sixpack, and then onceI get the mass I am happy with cut back on the calorie intake and get the sixpack back ? I now there has to be a way to have both. Basically what I am looking for is what to eat ? How much ? and what weight lifting to do ? I work on the road alot so its is hard to find good food. Should I just cook a bunch a pasta, fish, and chicken in the morning and eat it throughout the day ? Just need some ideas. Thanks in advance for the help gutshot. I look like a lightweight but weigh like a superwelterweight, HELP ME PLEASE!!

    Mass it is...correct choice

You need to have a lump of marble big enough for something to be carved out of it

    How old are you?
Whats your diet like so far?
Can you cook your own meals?
Do you have a budget to allow for buying your own food?
Can you cook (to some degree?)
What's your social life like (are you always out of the house)
    What are your work commitments?
What time do you workout (including boxing)
Do you have access to a gym (weight room)

    Some questions i need answered

Good good, i was afraid you were 13 and mom cooked everything for you
(nothing more offensive to mothers than 'i'll cook my own meals' lol

Breakfast: Say Cheerio to the Cheerios... not as good for you as you'd think. Replace with oatmeal and scrambled eggs. With the eggs, 5 whites, 1 yolk (yolks raise cholestrol if ate in large quantities)

AM Snack 10am: Turkey Sandwhich, no butter/marg... salad to add moisture on brown/wholemeal bread.

Lunch: 50g wholemeal Pasta and chicken breast, add some green veg like spinach and brocolli. low fat cook in sauce. (pre-prepare if need be)

1.5 hours before workout: jacket potato, cottage cheese... fuel for the fire

Postworkout (within 20 mins): whey protein shake mixed with water, add maltodexterin

Dinner: Chicken/fish/steak with mixed vegetables and brown pasta/rice or potatoes

Before bed: Whey shake mixed with semi skimmed milk

    Workout:

do the running and ab wokout before breakfast

whats your gym workout like in the afternoon?

A couple questions Any sauce on the pasta and which kind if any ? Any recomeds on the protein shake ? I read somewhere that you want one that has twice as many carbs as protein. How about creatine? Once again Thanks a lot gutshot!!! Just went shopping I will let you know how it turns out.

Low fat cooking sauce, check the sugar (simple carbs) and the salt levels

I hate bulking shakes, they are filled with simple carbs and taste like sugar loaded horlics :P
The weight gained from these will be put on in fat, i have always gone for a whey isolate.

    go to http://www.muscletalk.co.uk/10lb_Whe...1087189/tm.htm

i bought 10lbs of quality protein for 18.99 and its great, no sweetener, no added E-numbers just pure protein. 55g per serving

the reason why they tell you not to lift weights is because it produces short tight muscles but what you need to boxing is long lean ones. 6'2" and 170 is a very good size. I Think if you wanna get bigger you need to eat more and do more of the exercises you say your doing it sounds like youre not diong nearly enough.

my regular day includes 3 miles is moring 20 40 yard sprints uphill. get to the gym about 5 pm run another 3 miles , 30min of jump rope, 30 min shadowboxing. 4 rounds of pads, 5 heavy bag, 5 double end, 5 uppercut bag, 400 pushups, 100 pull ups, lots of punches for cardio on heavy bag, never truly counted but well over 1,000 different kinds of crunches and sit ups. try not to lift weights every day i usually do them maybe twice a week
