Default Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round By Rounds : Barrera vs Juarez

It's time for another installment of Wacko's Drunken Round By Round!!!

This time our slovenly coverage kicks off with a bang as we will be featuring the return of Marco Antonio Barrera as he jumps back into the saddle with yet another tuff opponent in Rocky Juarez. Also on tap is a compelling match up between Jorge Barrios vs. Janos Nagy, both fights are coming at us live Saturday, May 20th, 2006 courtesy of HBO's World Championship Boxing.

The card should start cranking around 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT.

Thank Christmas this shat aint PPV.

Oddly enough...this fight almost feels like the fight that slipped through the cracks...not alot of buzz to this one...mainly I would think due to the change in opponents & what not...either way...

    Let's get crackin!

Well...fellars...as usual I like to do a bit of prep work for the match up...so here goes.

First & foremost...this really aint the fight that Wacko wants to see Barrera in. Honestly, there are two or three other names out there that need to be on MAB's plate as entre's. First & foremost...Manny Pacquiao. Second Juan Manuel Marquez...& third...Chris John just for good measure. Now I know what your'e all going to say...John or Marquez would be a step down & backwards...but that's really all Juarez is IWO.

Barrera has already amassed a great record...one can even say that it's legendary...Hall of Fame worthy...but it still needs some clearing up. Barrera, who is already looked up as a veteran, can't have too many more fights left...IWHO. Boasting a career record of 61 wins with 42 ko's, 4 losses, & titles in three different weight classes it's hard for Wacko to understand why Barrera is actually facing 26 year old Rocky Juarez (25 wins with 18 ko's & 1 loss) other than quite possibly everyone else was booked up. Juarez is going to come into this fight highly motivated & most likely determined as hell to keep his record on the up & up.

The fact that this fight is for the world junior lightweight championship & also that he's back in the spot light should be motivation enough for a grand showing...but this is Marco Antonio Barrera & he's got a history of being explosive in the late rounds & Juarez is known for slowing as the bell tolls on.

Seriously though people...stop & think about just what Barrera is...right now...he's a 17th year 32 year old pro that has won 61 out of 65 fights...that's damned impressive. He'll go down in history, today...right now, as one of the greatest Mexiacan fighters of all time & as one of the top 10's pound-for-pound fighters in the world. That's a mantle to hang one's hat on no matter how you look at it. Does Barrera really need to keep on fighting at this pace? I mean, I want him to defeat Pacquiao...but at this late in the game...will he still have the will to do so?

Enter Rocky Juarez: Barrera was going to set the world on fire by taking on & hopefully devastating the durable lightweight belt holder Jesus Chavez. Had Barrera done so...he'd be the only Mexican to win titles in four different weight classes. The fight fell through on a training injury & in comes's Chavez's substitute...Rocky Juarez. Apparently this is the only fighter that was worthy & ready on such short notice.

Juarez is young & durable & could quite possibly stand a great chance of setting up an upset bout...but I still gotta bank on Barrera just because he's Barrera.

That being said...I hope that wev'e got a great match in store for us either way...just before the main event we'll get to see two other junior lightweights make their HBO debuts. Jorge Barrios (45 wins with 32 ko's, 2 losses, & 1 draw) vs Janos Nagy (23 wins with 14 ko's & 0 losses). Nagy's going to be shooting on keeping his unbeaten record in this 12-round showdown at 130 pounds. Should be a cracker as both men can apparently punch

So...as always...break out the chips & salsa...your poison of choice & pick your spot on the couch...Saturday May 20th, 2006 is fight night & it's on like Donkey Kong!

    Cheers...& koneecheewah bitches.

CC,you know the deal, love reading it!! I'm going for MAB wide UD BUT,i'd love love to see them go to war. Why? I want to see if MAB has it in him. Does he still have that same venom and power? Noooooooooo way JMM would be a step back and I'd actually bet on JMM. I can see where you are coming from Wack BUT it is in actual fact a step up from his relatively low level of competition since, well when he beat EM third time out. Juarez seems to be easily outboxed as can be seen in his fight with Soto and Raheem(I heard). To be honest,MAB needs to get in the ring with Pacman next year just to clear that question otherwise he is,by today's standards,an absolute legend! A true warrior and a classy gentleman. One of my faves and I hope he wins via ko!

wacko, I LUV reading this things. The only thing better is getting to download the fight later and watching it.

I think it is going to be a close fight in the first half of the fight. Then Barrera pulling away in the later rounds for the UD. Depending on Juarez's chin it could be a late round (T)KO.

s to you both...& I think that this might end up being a tuffy for the first half also...but B should be able to dominate if age aint a factor.

Not a thingy dingy. Like I said...he was in the right place at the right time I suppose.

I don't agree with it either...but lately...in boxing...you have to just take what your'e dealt & move on.

I think hes still got a war or two left in him. Personaly i think hes happy to take a guy apart over 12 rounds, saving him self for a war or 2 for when he really needs one, like a re-match with pac or morales; after 65 fights, alot of wars, who can blame him? just my thoughts

    What you think?

i understand the part about not agreeing with it but,

"what has Juarez done to deserve a shot at Barerra?"

simple, put his hand up when the other guy pulled out. Sure he doesn't have a belt to lose, but we all know what barrera was able to do to a guy, this guy put his hand up to go a possible 12 rounds with (imo) one of the top 10 P4P in the world, so yeah - thats why he deserves it imo (wouldn't say he deserved a shout if sum1 hadn't dropped out tho)

Juarez doesn't deserve it but there have been much worse fights than this, just look at Barrera-Fana. At least Juarez has a lot of amateur experience, some skills, and a pretty good punch. I'd be surprised if he won but there have been much worse mismatches than this.

The_One,I believe he has it in him to go to war with someone like Juarez but a Manny Pacman,I don't think so. Not anymore. I would love to be proven worng but I don't think he has that ferocity in him,not as much as it used to be which is natural as one supposedly mellows with age(someone forgot to tell Erik Morales that!)
