Default Are the new type of Gloves ruining Boxing....?

Ok firstly Carl Froch badly injured his right hand last friday (in round 2) against Magee to which froch added..."the BBE gloves are like f*cking pillows and way too soft,i'd have done him way earlier if my hand was'nt busted up"
Now look at Mr Calzaghes problems and many other fighters are stating exactly the same thing.
How often was this an issue 10 plus years ago..?
It was hardly ever mentioned at all
Promoters and the Governing bodies need to seriously consider the type of gloves that are being used and not just on fight night but sparring too.
This is killing off the fights we wanna see and limiting the boxers ability to punch at full power without fear of hand damage.
Something needs to be done about this.
Feel for the thousands who have paid BIG money to see Calzaghe fight in July....

It sounds a bit like the whole football issue with metatarsal injuries

Your not wrong mate, with sports these days its more about how you look than the actual safety, theres so many different manufacturers these days, the making of these important equipment needs to be looked into big time.

I don't think it is necessarily how you look. I think it is more to do with the fact that in some situations manufacturers of equipment are sacrificing player safety for performance. This is not the manufacturers fault it is whoever oversees the standard of equipment. British Standards or something like that. All sports equipment must be approved before it can be used.

And is it me or are we seeing way more broken noses and early cuts to fighters with these new 'softer ' gloves...?
Barrera springs to mind the other week with a round 2 broken nose.
Froch and Magee were sliced up within 4 rounds too.

well they can train with whatever gloves they like, I like title and cleto reyes. I'd say more problems occur due to the hand not being taped correctly.

Did the BBBC say they must use the BBE?

I know there is a difference between manufactures, but what is the difference between the old and new gloves?

    Yeah i saw those
Apparantley some of the new gloves are very soft which is why (and im guessing) fighters are suffering more cuts and faster bruising than in years gone by.
Barerra's broken nose in the 2nd round is a curious point too
