Former four-division world champion Roy Jones Jr. was in Melbourne, Florida on Saturday night to shoot hoops for the Brevard Blue Ducks semi-pro basketball team. "It felt pretty good," Jones said to Fightnews.com. "My legs were getting kind of tired but that's why I need to get down here." Jones didn't start the game against the R.H.P. Fast Break (from Orlando) because he hasn't had an opportunity to learn the plays but he did get some play time. The Blue Ducks won the game 122 to 85, and Jones was one of four from the floor with two points. "I'm pleased with my overall performance; I haven't been out here for a while so it's gonna take a little time."

Jones, who has a July 29th showdown against "The Boxing Prince" Prince Badi (25-2-1) for the NABO light heavyweight title, plans to play 15-game season with the Ducks while training for his fight. Jones will train in a local gym (in Melbourne), which would be the first time in his 53-fight career he hasn't trained for a bout inPensacola. "Prince is tough and very durable," Jones said. "He's a rough customer to deal with." Jones doesn't feel his basketball games will be a distraction to his boxing. "I incorporate playing basketball into my workouts," Jones said, "its great cardio for me because I love to play." Jones remained on the court for thirty minutes after the game to sign autographs and take pictures with the fans. "I love my fans and my fans love me," he said. (Photo: Todd Wood)
