Default JOSE RIVERA - Corey Spinks??

ICEMAN DIARY ENTRY, July 12, 2006: Corey Spinks' manager (Kevin Cunningham) was interviewed for a boxing website today where he was talking about Corey's options and future and when someone mentioned possibly fighting to unify their two titles against WBA champion Jose Rivera he made it out like fighting him would be a step backward for them, like they are these big superstars now, and what they really want is to fight Oscar DeLahoya or Floyd Mayweather. I have news for Kevin, though. Corey is two steps backwards for Oscar at his point. And Mayweather just convincingly beat the guy that stopped Corey in his previous fight so... you know? I think fans of this boxing world would certainly agree when I say there is absolutely no way in this world you would ever see Jose Antonio Rivera run around the ring for the entire last round of a fight that was razor close on the score cards like Corey did against Karmazin the other day. He didn't even do it when he was in the 12th and way ahead on points against a dangerous guy like Terra Garcia, did he? Boxing on huge networks like Showtime and HBO is all about the entertainment value that you bring and, believe me, the average fan is not really enjoying a guy coming into the ring with a four minute ring walk while dancing with a rapper only to turn around and literally run for the entire last round of a close fight. I actually like Corey's boxing skills and think he is an exceptional boxer but I think they are seriously overestimating the value of his win last weekend over Roman Karmazin. Cunningham called Karmazin "the best 154 pounder in the world." Better than Oscar? Quartey? Vernon Forrest? Mosely? Ahh... I don't know about that, my man. In any event, Jose is more than willing to go to St. Louis and risk his title against Spinks there and as long as the judge isn't working our fight that somehow, inexplicably, gave Spinks the last round of his fight with Karmazin, saving the fight for him instead of it letting it be what it was supposed to be: a draw.

With fair and competent judging we are discussing an interview right now with Karmazin's manager instead of Cunningham.

Spinks vs. Rivera would be a good fight. Or Karmazin vs. Rivera and the winner gets Spinks

No Corey should be giving Roman a rematch,he didn't deserve the shot in the first place and Roman wants a rematch so we should see that first. I hope Rivera KNOCKS Spinks TFO!!! He's probably my fave fighter@154.

What about Rivera vs. Karmazin for the winner to get Spinks?

Naa,Riveira said he only wants the big fights,Karmazin without a title is not a big fight. Riveira has called out PBF,Spinks,Margarito,Oscar and a few other guys too.

Maybe that should be who Margarito fights next. OMG I just realised something, what if PBF decided that Rivera was his next gfight

But I think Margarito and Spinks should fight.

Margarito is fighting Quintana or Winky(read on a random site somewhere that negotiatations have reopened). Riveira's real dream is to unify so I think it'll be Spinks. Also, Santos is fighting Garcia, the guy who Riveira just beat, does Santos still have an alphabet soup title??

All these different good fighters around it's kinna maddening that no super fights are being made when they could be. Between 154 and 147 there can be about 10 super fights made, or at least 10 potentially great fights, that should be made, whats your opinion?

I agree, there are potentially numerous fights that can be made and who knows, maybe we shall see more of them than we think.I think there are lots of going ons behind the scenes and also the fact that these fighters want astronmical amounts of money, each wanting the lion's share of the fight therefore disagreement ergo, negotiations break down. I want more great fights at 147 first though especially with my boy Cotto moving up.

Give me a break, guy's.... Rivera lost his title at welterweight, then out of the blue... he move to
154 lbs class and gets a crack at at the WBA title without fighting anyone since he lost, C'mon.... don't fool yourselves!!! he's a nice guy and a decent fighter... but he wasn't deserving of a title shot.

And I don't see him beating any of the top guy's at 154, , I really feel bad for the other rated fighters, they are getting hammered when the boxing organization's pull crap like this!!!

Garcia would murder Margarito. Which is why Margarito keeps his ass at 147. A fight with fellow Mexican Garcia would bring Margarito some decent money. And it would look good on his resume. You would think Margarito would look for that fight, since he says Mayweather is scared and won't fight him. But he doesn't. Why? Cuz Garcia while not a great fighter, would still pose a challenge. And Margarito don't want that. He trying to get paid. He ain't trying to take tough fights if he don't have to.

BOXINGMAN, Are you believing that Spinks deserved his title shot? More than a year after he lost HIS title at 147 by knockout?
