Default ike quartey vs vernon forrest

on the saddo boxing world schedual it has forrest unranked by the ring magazine opinion when literally not so long ago some people considered him a puond 4 pound no1! i'm not a forrest fan or quartey either but imho vernon has learned from his defeats and not only do i fancy him against ike i'm gonna go into physic mode and predict he could possibly rule his roosr for a fair few years to come.why is it some fighters are allowed defeats i.e juddah/trinidad/odh roy jones yet are still considered great and before the debate starts i mean immiediately after theirt dfeat still held high not what theyve later gone on to prove whilst some after 1 or 2 defeats are written off?like i say im not a forrest fan nor 90% of the time would i pay to watch him perform but i do have a gut feeling he'll come back and shine.(by posting this i hereby realise that i am putting myself on a pedistal for i told you so comments but id much rather post my true opinions rather than the "say nothing till its over... in hindsight...i'm never wrong/allways right brigade..

Vernon Forrest is one of these fighters with a puzzling record. On the one hand, he had two great victories over the great Shane Mosley, almost KO'ing him in their first fight. On the other hand, he gets steamrollered by Ricardo Mayorga's bombs. Not that Mayorga wasn't a formidable force at that weight (147, was it?), but still.... what to make of the inconsistency?

I myself like the matchup. I remember Quartey coming up as being a potential great champion. Matter of fact, I consider ODH's victory over Quartey as one of Oscar's more impressive wins. It wasn't against a shot fighter, or one that had been previously decimated by Tito.

As to who I think would win.... probably Forrest. I think Vernon has the boxing skills and the power. And I think he must've learned a thing or two about getting out of the way of bombs. So probably Forrest by late TKO or decision.

I consider ODH's victory over Quartey as a robbery. I agree that De La Hoya knocking Quartey down in the final round probably levelled the scorecard just, but the when the final scorecards were in it showed that De La Hoya would have won the fight even without the final round which was bullshat.

The Goldenboy got very very lucky that night.

How can you say you love the old boys and legends when by your own admission you have never seen them fight?

I love seeing two top guys fighting each other with no bogus belts on the line... it's what the game needs. I hope we see more of it. This is a really good matc up for me but I think Forrest is the better fighter at this point. Forrest by late rounds stoppage

I have no idea what to expect from this cause I have no idea what to expect from Vernon. He's been so fragile and inactive, and he looked kinda crappy against Rios.

Vernon in good form could cause some problems for Ike, walk him into a right hand and he's got the power to hurt Ike, Ike's got real good recuperative powers but his chin could be a bit more solid, I mean Verno had a real chance to stop him in that 9th round. And Ike's probably most vulnerable to left hooks which isn't Vernon's best punch.

I'm hoping Ike will win and I'm picking him cause Vernon's such a question mark. Maybe by a stoppage

Nice match-up here ! both guys are top notch . and have lots of talent. Quartey has one of the most pleasing boxing styles, along with one of the best jabs in the game. and Forrest can box well and can bang when he needs too. Should be a fun night for the boxing fan !

Ike Quartey should win this fight since Forrest is damaged by injury, he say's it's fully healed but I think that is just warrior spirit and a passion to get back into the ring, Quartey will win and get a title shot, and looking at the champions in this division Quartey may be able to make it to the top.

It may turn out top be teh battle of the jabs . Quaretys was always formiddable in his prime but last time I saw him it looked abit slower and he seemed beatable. We dont know about Forrest though my best guess he still has it in the tank and will be the best he can be here .

Quarety as the power to hurt Forrest and vice versa but the Ghanaian is usually abit too hestitant with his power shots in the big fights . If he didnt come out his shell in his prime against Oscar I dont see him being anymore ruthless here against Vernon . This will suit Forrest who fires his right hand with regularity .

I expect this one to be fought at a distance with Forrest keeping his chin down in fear of Quateys power . After an entertaining battle Vernon takes it on points .

Vernon Forrest = 154 pound Antonio Tarver

    Ike Quartey = Ike Quartey

It's a pick em fight. If Quartey can avoid the uppercut of Vernon Forrest he's good.
