Default DRUM ROLL PLEASE............. IT'S CORY SPINKS!!!!!!!!

    FROM THE SWEETSCIENCE.COM

PBF reminds us that boxing is business first

All the speculation as to who P4P king Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be fighting next can be finally put to rest.

According to St. Louis Post-Dispatch, hometown hero Cory Spinks – not the tough-as-nails Carlos Baldomir – not the heavy-handed Antonio Margarito – is the next man in line to see how he matches up against PBF the nonpareil.

The two titleholders will meet on Nov. 4 for Spinks’ IBF junior-middleweight belt.

“This is big,'’ said Spinks’ trainer/manager Kevin Cunningham. “Cory’s ready to take his career to the next level. Everyone says Mayweather’s the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. This is one of the biggest fights in boxing outside the heavyweight division.'’

Mayweather, the man to beat, is 29 years old and has a record of 36-0 with 24 knockouts. The champ/challenger Spinks is 28 and is 35-3 with 11 KOs.

This bout has been in the works since Spinks retained his three welterweight belts with a unanimous decision win over Zab Judah on April 10, 2004 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

At a post-fight news conference captained by the inimitable Don King, Mayweather confronted Spinks at the podium and yelled, “Skills pay the bills.'’

“Bring it on,'’ Spinks hollered back.

King was in his element, liking nothing better than to sit back and watch two potential foes square off and lob verbal salvoes at one another in front of a scoop-deranged boxing press.

After a few minutes of tolerating the one-upmanship with a knowing smile on his face, DK the peacemaker separated the warring factions, but not before Spinks got in the last word: “Sign a contract.'’

“It’s 99 percent done,'’ Cunningham said. “The one percent is Don announcing when the press conference will be.'’

Cunningham added that the IBF gave their thumbs-up to the fight on Tuesday.

“And they don’t approve a championship fight unless all the contracts have been signed,'’ he added.

Mayweather is surrendering his IBF welterweight belt to challenge Spinks for his IBF junior-middleweight title.

Although Mayweather-Spinks isn’t the fight most hardcore fans were hoping to see, both fighters have titles and marquee names, so marketing the bout as something especially meaningful ought to be easy.

But it doesn’t quite squelch the disappointment at not seeing the best take on the best – now instead of at some later date. Maybe matching Mayweather against Baldomir or Margarito makes zero sense in terms of business and longevity, but the question of pride, how much or how little, and Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather might have finally been answered definitively…

Finally The Fuking wait is over Floyd will get the strap at 154 before 30. Whip Oscars a** drop down 147 light up Baldomir and if Margaburrito is still around slap the shiz out of him, and then run for president !!!! Seriously at least its a start though Floyds will be back in the ring instead of in his office I mean this fight wont be a total suckfest.....Hats off to Cory this is a huge risk for him and as much as some of you want to down Cory a win against Floyd and we will have to mention Cory and the word Legacy in the same Convo seeing he will have beaten some of the best contemporaries of his time...

Mayweather's next slogan on the way up: "Floyd for President! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa heard?!?!?"

Not the easiest fight, but this isn't one I really want to see. I think it's a no win situation for PBF. If he wins so what, if he loses, he lost to Spinks. I doubt he'll see 8Million for this one.

It would be nice to see PBF against a puncher. Spinks doesn't have the pop to hurt him, but could make it a competetive fight.

I know, they should have a dance off. PBF would have his hands full then, give the winner of the ring entrance competetion an extra 2 points. It would be very important cause I would bet this one's going the distance.

    Great opportunity for Spinks though.

floyd stepping up to yet another weight class and making his first fight with a world champion should earn him TONS of respect (just like hatton did with collazo)

what do the floyd haters have to say now, i wonder?

cant knock the man for wanting to make history by jumping up in weight to fight the best whose willing to fight him

Well my money is on Cory to beat FLoyd handsdown on ring entry!

The way he danced his way into the Karmazin fight, I'm expecting him to do some serious breakdance and body popping for Floyd, maybe even a couple of head spins :P

Oh and if Cory by some miracle does win, be prepared to see the biggest display of human waterworks of all time!

I reckon Cory will be crying and wailing like a little girl for about 77 days if he pulls this one off!

Looks good on paper, or to a casual fan. If you follow boxing closely this is hardly a fan favorite fight. I am not a hater, but I am unimpressed by this choice. And Hatton didn't get a lot of credit for his fight, and he nearly lost. I would prefer a tough fight to him fighting someone who has very little chance of ko'ing him.

The ring entrances should be ghetto fabulous though!!!

Agreed. Oumafan hit it nicely in another thread,Flyod does not seem to want to fight a big puncher@140/147. He has picked guys he can go to toe with. I would much much much rather have seen Floyd fight Baldo, would have made more sense and also,I could not care less about the 5 weight class thing, wow! Big deal, hasn't Oscar done like 6/7 weight classes?

Isin't Cory recognized as the Linear Champ at 154 It's all the same weather he fought Baldy or not Cory Has Bigger wins on his Resume than Baldomir or Margaburitto....If Tony is such a Boogey man and a large threat and a Monstrous Welter then Why dosent he move up and try to make a big fight for himself at 154 or something

Game I dont think you would be satisfied with Mayweather unless he fought Margaburitto, Meanwhle what is Tony Doing HE is issueing challenges and acknowledging challenges but when it is time to lay it all on the line its"WELL YEAH TALK TO MY PROMOTER BOB ARUM" Then nothing happens for one reason or another but Bob will have us believe that Tony is so feared and untouchable prove yourself Tony

this is a good post and you have earned yourself a cc

its too bad that you probably get a response from any margarito fan that can come up with a strong arguement against it
it seems to me that there are very few left who are still riding the margarito hype machine by saying that pbf was/is ducking him.
the truth has been coming out and the public is beginning to realize why no other fights are being made with tony (the arum factor)

the fight that NEEDS to be made imo?

    antonio margarito vs. zab judah

margarito beats (or ever even fights) somebody of that calibur, and looks good in that fight, then start the talkin

and no....................DANIEL SANTOS does not count as an elite fighter (but he looked damn good against margarito)

It would seem that PBF decides to fight an opponent whether they win or not. Margarito loses to Judah, and he can fight Floyd next
