Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds William vs Mitchell
Well folks...another weekend is gone & another "major" fight is in the bag.
You all know what that means, right?
Just another few days until the next & fight!!!
You guessed it...we about to be back up in this bitch once again!!!
The Wack couldn't be any happier, after missing out on this weekend's festivities due to a wedding & the wife's class reunion...which I might add...ended in a much scornful arguement over Wacko wanting to bail for the fights & not getting out in time to make it home...but we won't get into that...suffice it to say...it's past due time for antoher one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds.
It's time to shake yah money makers because the crew & the drunken one shall be at it again.
For this installment of Wacko's Drunken Round by Round wer'e headed back to HBO once again for Boxing After Dark featuring the return of the much hyped & appreciated heavy hitting welterweight hopeful Paul Williams.
To date Paul "the Punisher" Williams (30 wins with 22 ko's) has looked immensely impressived against rather meager talent. None this go around though, Williams is going to be thrown to the lions as he faces rough & ready veteran & former champion Sharmba "Little Big Man" Mitchell (57 wins with 30 ko's & 3 losses) for the WBO NABO & the WBC USNBC Welterweight titles.
The fight (...& it will be one) takes place at the Reno Events Center in Reno, Nevada & will be commentated on by the heavily scrutinized "BAD" team of Max Kellerman, Lennox Lewis, & Fran Charles.
As I eluded to earlier...I got a feeling that this is going to be a fight that might shock a few of us...on totally opposite levels...which brings me to what I've begun to call: The Wackster's Factors of the Fight.
Factors for & against Paul Williams:
Factor 1: Experience: Honestly...I see this going against Williams & for Mitchell. I honestly don't believe that Williams is quite ready for a challenge like this. You might laugh & say that Mitchell is no longer a challenge...but honestly...I gotta beg to differ. Unless Williams comes in & sparks Mitchell right out...I think this turns out to be a long night for the Punisher...but I believe that the kid is capable of winning a battle.
Factor 2: Hype & record. Williams is coming up...& there is a lot of talent at 147...but Williams is coming up a bit fast IWO. Let him simmer against some 2nd rate competition...like Mitchell...but still...Mitchell may be too much. Doesn't make much sense to you...but to Wacko...it makes perfect sense. Williams' name has already been tossed out there as a possible opponent for Margarito. Williams is fast...& he's strong. He's fluid with really good combinations...but not against top rate fighters...that we know. The question is going to be is Williams all hype? His record is 30-0 & that's impressive...but again...who it's against is the name of the game. Will he meet the hype...or does he believe it too soon, already?
Factor 3: Height & reach. Both huge factors for this fight that will be in Williams' favor. 79" vs 72". 6' 1" vs 5' 7". I'm not saying that Mitchell should just lie down & take defeat...but you wonder what the hell he might even be thinking by entertaining such a fight with a prospect that has almost every advantage in his corner.
Factors for & against Sharmba Mitchell:
Factor 1: Experience: Above I said that I see this one for Mitchell....& I do...but what if Mitchell has too much experience. Lately, theyv'e all been bad. He's lost 2 of his last 4 fights & he's got TKO'd in those two. Granted...he did also win 2...but not in the way one would really have wanted. He went the full distance against Jose Luis Cruz (whom you might remember went 10 with SSM recently) & he came to a technical draw against Chris Smith. Maybe Mitchell has the edge in experience...but not recent experiences. This will probably factor into the fight in both ways...I expect Mitchell's knowledge based experience to carry him through the majority of the fight...but I expect his age & recent ring experiences to rear their ugly heads toward the end.
Factor 2: Honestly...I don't have any more factors for Mitchell...I think that the above pretty much sums it up for me. How about you?
Prediction: Williams by decision.
Pull up a chair, fluff the cushion on the couch, break out the remote, & pour yourself a cold one...the Event is but a few days away.
