Default Roy Jones Jr and James Toney II - What if? :D

What do you think would happen, Roy's technique may be in the slide but he looked strong right down the stretch last time out, hardly a war but he's still got a high level of conditioning.

Toney's style hasn't slipped as much, maybe because he's aged different or maybe because the way he fights suits 'old age' better.

I don't know whether technique or fitness would be the main factor in this.

Long time listener first time caller etc - nice site and the training section's very useful - cheers.

I was thinking about this the other day - I don't reckon Roy ever developed enough technique and just relied on his natural ability whereas for my money, Toney's technique is as good as anyone's. I reckon Toney, in the right condition, would embarass him. In the wrong condition, he'd still win.

Good point, I'd have to say that Toney by far has the better fundimentals.

A good conditioned Toney would probably get a UD or a TKO (since Roy has lost his mind... :P) don't know about a baddly conditioned Toney though... He claims he had a Flu but last time out he was awful against Rahman.... good for about 6 rounds then he was finished.

He was there for the taking and Rahman fought a stupid fight... lost a UD.

Didn't see the Toney - Ruiz fight, maybe that's a better indicater.

I'm not sure if the way their styles match would even allow Toney to win. Not that much ahs changed since the last time out and Roy humiliated Toney back then.

toney could eat 6 cheeseburgers and down a twelve of buds and still knock jones out early.
i dont think jones would see the 4th round nomatter what shape toney was in!

Yea for me no question Toney would win today.. ROy is shot, it's not really even relevant their first fight... I mean Im sure Roy Jones would have embaressed Glen Johnson and Tarver if he fought them in 94..

    RJJ is shot.

He looked good in his last fight because he fought a dummy.

Against a live opponent, RJJ would be a goner.

Toney by TKO, if he can fit through the ropes!!!

Roy would win again the same way. His style just foils Toney because Roy is a counter puncher. No other Heavyweight troubles Toney because they aren't counter punchers like Roy Jones, Montell Griffin, Nunn and Reggie Johnson who all gave Toney hard times some VERY hard times.

RJJ....no doubt...after SRR, RJJ is the greatest ever and rjj is a counter puncher which would prove too much for toney
