    Default barrios v guzmen

saw the fight last night, what a scrap they put on, that barrios is a true el loco ( the crazy one ) in spanish, if there was more good honest performers as these two were that night boxing would be much better.

do you guys think barrios can get back to world contention??

can guzmen make an impact at world level??

I agree with you, not only Barrios a true El Loco, he actually won the fight but got robbed.

He will be a force at 135lbs, a match with Chico or Valero would be awesome

It was a good fight, Guzman dominated early but I felt Barrios was coming on strong at the end. Guzman reminds me a lot of Chris Eubank. He does a lot of posturing and posing and not enough work. I felt he could have won that fight much more easily but he coasted the last 4 or 5 rounds allowing Barrios to dictate the pace.

But fair play to him he was winning most of the exchanges even when back up on the ropes.

I felt like Barrios gave it his all, whereas Guzman could move up another gear or two. His potential is definitely there.

I wouldn't say he got robbed, Guzman was a clear winner, nowhere near as clear as the HBO team seemed to think though. I thought 116-112 was about right.

116-112 is a total domination for a fighter

But haven't you noticed, Guzman cliches just for him to survive the onslaught of Barrios? It looks like guzman has nothing to show anymore, just slap some punches and throw soft jabs to show to the judges he's still in the fight.

Barrios is a clear agressive, unrelenting, pressing, moving, throwing, banging

If those definitons are not enought to win a fight, Barrios should retire

Glad to see this thread, the other thread about Guzman & Pac made me feel that I was in some alien territory. Their views about Guzman are almost total opposite here, although I respect them, that I can't stop wondering if we were watching the same fight or if we were talking about the same fight - I was even starting to question my judgement, but thanks I wasn't hallucinating after all. Ya, I agree, Guzman came out strong but I think he ran out of gas and realized that he can't put down Barrios and probably has been hurt a little too, he was definitely on the retreat at the end but the styleless Barrios failed to take advantage of that with his wild hooks and body shots, and was countered effectively, but definitely not impressively IMO, by Guzman. I thought the fight should've been closer than the actual result.

    I thought Guzman was brilliant

Anyone that scored the fight for Barrios must of been on the same drugs as that old judge...the most disturbing thing about the fight was without the ridiculous point deduction it would of been a draw

I honestly don't see how anybody could have scored that fight closer than 116-112 for Guzman, to me that's about right although it could have been 9-3 Guzman. Fighters these days are getting too much credit for just being agressive, I like Barrios a lot, have since the Freitas fight but his agression was not effective. I agree with Fenster, I thought Guzman was very good.

How is 116-112 total domination? Two judges had Peter beating Toney 117-111 and he sure as hell didn't dominate that fight did he?

Guzman won the fight, he took his foot of the gas at the end, like Eubank used to do but the result was never in doubt. Guzman never once looked even remotely hurt, nothing Barrios was throwing was bothering him in the slightest. I agree that the higer work rate was from Barrios but Guzman landed the cleaner shots, controlled the action, even though Barrios was forcing the pace and looked like he could have stepped up a level if he needed to.

I think he's going to be a handful for anybody at 130 or 135 lb.

I can see him getting outworked but I just cannot see him being hurt by anyone from 135 and under.

He has the potential to be a great champion.

I thought the fight was pretty one sided as well. Can't really see how anyone scored it close. Guzman, aside from silly moments of posturing, looked fantastic. Great speed, skill, and power. And I never saw him in any kind of real trouble despite Barrios trying to pound him. The guy has the potential to be a great champion. I can even let his moments of showboating pass, considering how much S*** Barrios talked in the build up of this fight. Barrios is used to overpowering, bullying, and intimidating his opponents. When he saw that Guzman was not afraid of him, was to skilled for him, and wasn't scared or hurt by him......it was over. I give Barrios credit for continuing to press the action....but Guzman outclassed him.

Both look like good fighters. Barrios is a BEAST! Hats off to Guzman though i think he deserved the decision. This kid could go far!

    Are you referring to Guzman?

Then why in hell did it took so long for him to move at 130? ..............and mind you, he did not dominate 122 and 126 either.

    LEt's see him fight again
