beautiful birds, but do not get one. they require many hours of the day for attention. They will actually become so depressed that they'll pluck their own feathers out if left alone for too long. They are extrremely high maintenance birds. Plus, they cost a fortune, upwards of thousands of dollars. They also have very long lifespans and must often be willed.

    Get a goldfish.

    on Amazon parrots:

"Parrots require more attention and care than domesticated pets such as dogs or cats, and are not for the inexperienced bird owner. All parrots need a lot of stimulating activities to keep from being bored and terribly destructive to themselves and their surroundings. In particular, since Amazons are cavity nesters in the wild, their desire to chew wood is strong, and they need to be provided with destructible toys to satisfy this innate urge."

a parakeet aint so bad but birds chirp and stink.

Funny you shold say that Beds I wanted a Parrot myself I was just about to do the research....I will tell you Von is right about the self abuse part..My uncle has a tropical bird I think its a cock a too or something like that...When he go's on vacation or he is gone for a while the Psyco plucks itself and The feathers dont grow back...I swear to you hid bird has been so tempermental over the years (13) that its completely featherless except for its head and wings...Its really Fuked up looking...She is also very jealous over him she will jump up and run up your arm and bite you in the ears and nose if you are talking to him or sitting with him for a while and he ignores her...

love birds and parakeets are a far better first choice I'd say. With love birds though, I think you have to buy two because they become very emotionaly attached to each other and are very social and get lonely as well. Could be wrong though. but good idea...start with a small one.
