Default Why Does It Seem People Are Watching a Different Fight To Me?

I watched ITV last night of Calzaghe v Bika, and was disgusted by the state of the commentators

Im not a massive fan of Joe Calzaghe, but I understand he is a very genuine guy out of the ring, and world class in it.

However, why they continually put Duke Mckenzie so we all have to listen to his dribble is beyond me.

Firstly I had Calzaghe 8 rounds ahead at the end of the fight, I never saw him in any real trouble once, apart from the headbutt which cut him, Which I do think was partly accidently, (not the other two)

But how many times did hear the commentators say "we think Calzaghe is ahead" followed by that idiot Duke McKenzie saying, "Bikas causing him all kinds of problems"

Then the very next thing they do is put Duke McKenzies scored card up in the 10 saying he is up by 5 or somthing like that.

    Thats just total hypocrasy!!!!

Yet during the fight when they go about the 7th round to someone who actually talks sense, Barry McGuinan, he says Calzaghe has won every round but is finding Bikas style awkward, but is still clearly winning the fight.....

Please put this man as a commentator.

How anyone can say Calzaghe has lost his star quality, Is beyond me.

I thought it was a great fight, rough, nasty, quick, and electric paced from fighters and audience.

Surely what America wanted to see.

No one is going to have a nice fight against Bika, because of his style.

Bika couldnt come close to beating Calzaghe, and Calzaghe did what he had to do. Calzaghe for me actually dropped down a level or two and got angry and started fighting Bikas fight. Yet when Calzaghe did what he does best, quick flowing combos, Bika couldnt live with him.

Anyone else would have gone last night, but Bika has a head made of stone I think

Even so, I really enjoyed it last night, also Mathews v Foster was very good, but a prime example when a corner should pull out there man. Foster had lost the fight in the 10th, and was too weak for a KO punch.

A good night of boxing, and I see no negatives...

Agree with a lot of what you said mate, have a CC. Barry McGuigan talks a lot of sense, and I usually find that he's there or thereabouts most of the time. I suppose Guigs is more of an expert pundit than Duke, so they can't exactly go to expert pundit Duke Mackenzie in the studio can they? I quite like nicky piper and glenn mcrory on sky, and one of them would do a good job.

I had it 8-9 rounds for Calzaghe too...

Bika made Calzaghe work for every round, but didn't really do anything to win in more than 3 rounds

I agreed with everything up to 'Let Barry be the commentator'

Sorry but he's almost as annoying as Duke, and the touch of death to any fighter.

If McGuigan picks somebody to shine, you know it's going to be a long hard night for them. :P

Seriously having McGuigan pick you to win a fight is the equivilent of a sailor killing an albatross at sea :P

I like Mcguinan, he tells it how it is...

He's some times off in talking about how a fighter will develop/who they can beat etc...

But when he talks about what is going on in the ring RIGHT THEN he calls it how it is...

It was nice to see Mr Lewis at ringside

And for all you Brits, when Mathews beat Foster, he went and celebrated in the crowd, and one of his mates is that Craig Dean from Holyoaks!

bit of useless info for ya Haha

I actully had the opposite problem, i scored it by three points (including the deduction) to Joe, and i thought the commentating was biased to the other extreme, every time Bika blocked something they claimed it had landed. Calzaghe was clearly the superior fighter but often on Duke's scorecard when he had put it even i would have given it to Bika.

Might just have been me and the guys i was watching it with, but we had it reasonable close, you are right when you say when joe boxed moved and threw combinations Bika couldnt live with him, but getting invovled and dropping his hands was not smart,

I think the most tragic fact of that post was in fact the statement that you recognise a member of the cast on that dreadful tv drivel. And even worse, you know the actor's name. It's down there with stealing from a bum, pissing on the sidewalk and being bilbo

Its pretty hard not to notice him when a fighter jumps onto him?!

And bilbo is one of the better posters here

Sorry. The point I was making is that it might be a little sad to be watching Hollyoaks and know who the guy is. And I like bilbo...he's funny but with a twisted sense of humour
