    Default Escobedo Victorious in Scorcher

    Escobedo Victorious in a Scorcher
    By Gabriel Montoya

Fighting for the second time in three weeks, Woodland, CA native, former Olympian and Golden Boy Promotions rising prospect Vicente Escobedo survived a third round knockdown to knock out a very game Julian Rodriguez in the fourth round of a shootout Thursday night at Arco Arena. The crowd was small by King’s game standards but made their presence felt as local favorite Escobedo entered the ring to a hail of applause and a cloud fog (an effect used all night for no apparent reason other to choke the hell out of anyone in proximity). With both fight fans and fighters such as middleweight fringe contender Eric Regan and former WBA light welterweight titlist Loreto Garza, in attendance, an excited Escobedo would enter to thunderous applause and chants of “Chente!!Chente!!”.

That fight where he lost was b*d*ss. It was a Boxing After Dark quality fight,
    that was on Telefutura.

Well... Heres the so called 'next golden boy' ODLH....

He was suppose to inherit it all from ODLH and then Jimenez came in and deviated that....

Though I think it's good to be in a tough fight and turn out to win it, this is 2 fights hes struggled in....

Even DLH got dropped early . I really like the kid. Very personable and open about the mistakes he made. He just got too aggressive with a guy that could punch and it ALMOST cost him. I like his resilience.Hopefully he will develop into a top fighter. Steve Kim did a good piece on him last week.

It is importatnt to note that Escobedo was the cheif sparring partner for Pacman in prep for Morales. The kid has excellent spped of foot and hands. That kinda experience will serve him well. He said that watching Manny's work ethic is something he is growing from. he now knows what it looks liek to train as a champion.

Your right but compare Valenzuela & Campanella whom dropped ODLH to Rodriguez who dropped Escobedo... Don't get me wrong I like Escobedo I had him as one of the hotest prospects in 2005 coming in to 2006. I just feel that as of late hes struggled with weak opposition and I just don't see that fire in his eyes that I saw when he fought earlier in his career.

And thats been part of his problem he gets over agressive and careless leaves himself open and BAM! down he goes... That can be very costly if he decides to do that with a puncher..

I agree with most of your points but one : The fire is definitely in his eyes. Too much so. He got careless and that is something that happens to the best and the rest. His recovery ability is good but the fact that he allowed himself to get hit again and hard after being dropped is dangerous and there is room for alarm. I thunk the plan to bring him along is a good one. He should be on TV by early to mid next year. But for now, they will keep him active and off TV while he develops.
