    Default Alphabet belt problem

Now to my knowledge this event has never happened and i'm sure that all the councils work hard to make sure it never does. What if a fighter won 2 or more of the main belts, was crowned ring magazine champ, and then they decided to give-up the main belts? The person who wears the ring belt (which can interestingly enough not be stripped away like the other belts) is known as the champ of the division. If someone has 2 or more of the main belts, they're considered an undisputed champion or something like that. Now what if someone had the ring magazine belt and two other fighters split the main belts? That would give you a division champ (the ring belt trumps all others) and TWO undisputed world champions. I would really like to see how they could possibly explain why all these belts are necessary.

Antonio Tarver was Light Heavyweight Champ without a single alphbet trinket. I think that is the smart way to go: once you get the Ring belt, drop the alphabet straps in the trash(ala Riddick Bowe) and keep all the money you earn.

Incidently, I was watching Rocky III, and the belt they use in the movie has the "THE RING" logo right in the middle.

Virgil Hill once told me " There are so many titles out there that it is almost a bad thing to hold one"....It can kill a career...We all still just consider the WBA,WBC, and IBF as legit titles...some may add the WBO depending on the division. It is the ring magazine belt that has the prestige. It is 100 percent credible. As you said the only way to lose it is to get beat for it. Ring does not profit like the ABC organizations. IMO the holder of that title is the champion the others are belt holders

I agree that the Ring belt is the most prestigious belt in boxing. I have a question about that particular championship that I've often wondered about, though. Does Ring magazine consider their title to be a representation of the linear title in a particular weight class?

Michael Spinks had the Ring belt and the lineage (The Man who beat the Man ... al the way back to John L.) Mike Tyson had three alphabet belts.

That was essentially a huge fight as it had TWO undefeated, 'undisputed' world heavyweight Champs facing ech other.

Another time - when Ali fought Frazier for the first time, we had two undefeated heavyweight champs going at it.

James Jeffries was undefeated and came out of retirement to fight undisputed world champ Jack Johnson.

You're right ..... it is pretty rare over the years!!!

So in order for someone of this heavy division to be crowned the ring champ the 2 absolute best fighters in the division by ring standards must fight and the winner will get the ring belt. So now the question is: What match-up will be worthy of the winner being crowned the ring champ? For now Wlad's obviously locked as one of the fighters but who's the other?

Under The Ring Policy, the vacant championships can only be filled if #1 fights #2, or in cases where there is not much difference between #2 and #3, the vacancy can be filled when #1 fights #3.

So for the heavyweight division that means we could have a heavyweight champion again if

Klitschko fights #2 Maskaev or #3 Peter

Seeing how klitschko already beat peter the Klitschko/Maskaev fight makes the most sense.
