Default Watched DeLaHoya v Quartey again

Just watched this for the first time in years and thought that Quartey just about did enough to win it.

I thought that the fight should've been stopped in the 12th (even if Quartey) recovered very quickly after the onslaught) Just too many consecutive, unanswered head punches landed for me.

    My Card

    DLH ROUND QUARTEY

    10 1 9
    9 2 10
    10 3 9
    10 4 9
    9 5 10
    9 6 10
    9 7 10
    9 8 10
    9 9 10
    10 10 9
    9 11 10
    10 12 8

    113 114

No way anybody could ever call it a robbery imo (same as Whitaker fight) very close and I could see a victory either way.

    What do you reckon?

i think i had it 2 points for quartey but its been so long since i watched it and some people actually think oscar had 10-7 round in the 12th which i dont agree with because he lost last minute of that round if i remember right

Yeh, totally agree, If the onslaught had've continued I would've said 10 v 7, but as you say Quartey wont the last minute atleast and DLH hardly threw a punch - quality fight !!

in fact Quartey was throwing back during that period Oscar was landing bombs, and he was landing more shots albeit they weren't as hard, but I think that if anything it would be closer to a 10-9 round than a 10-7

I remember it being a very close call. What annoyed me though was the fact that even if Oscar would have lost the last round, he still would have won a decision on the judges scorecards.

    That was bullshit imo.

I had Quartey also, it was a great fight. People don't call it a robbery, they are just frustrated that Oscar's got the nod by such a large margin on two scorecards. 112-116 is simply insane, bias, and bad for the sport. The scorecard was even worse in the Whitaker fight.

There was one poster on this forum named Lawhoops who said he scored nearly every round for Oscar.

I had Oscar winning this fight by 1 but like all of his high profile matches,it was close. Why is it,apart from the Mayorga aand Vargas fights, his fights are alll so close!!!

Oscar won the fight...but it was a competitive match.

The last round should have been a 10-8 round based on the facts that Oscar dropped him & a lot of the punches that Quartey was throwing weren't flush & he was just throwing to appear busy while getting hammered, IWO.

No doubt Quartey is a warrior...but he did lose the fight.

I give him credit for hanging in their with all those greats. Trinidad, Mosley, Quartey, Whitaker, Hopkins. Not many fighters can hang in there with greats like that. But all the great fighters of this generation have a night were they won a mega match in a convincing way, sadly that's the only thing missing from Oscar's resume because beating a washed up Mayorga and Vargas won't do it. He still has at least one more shot when fighting PBF. If he can dominate PBF his legend will soar.
