I was wrong about the fight, but ALSO: You have to ask the question. Here is a guy in his prime 20 years younger than BHOP, so why could he not finish him off? Tried as hard as he could and could not get him out of there or stop him.

In comparison, Marciano stopped 38 year old Walcott, Holmes stopped 38 year old Ali, Tyson stopped 38 year old Holmes, etc. etc. seems 38 years old is the Death Sentence even for a few ATGs like Holmes, Louis, Ali, etc... AND YET THIS KOVALEV could not stop a 50 year old.

Because like GGG, Kovalev is another over hyped white fighter.

Kovalev would get beaten by Stevenson. The fact that Hopkins picked Kovalev when he could have fought Stevenson says a lot.

These russian "I come forward. I knock you out" type fighters will always have their hands full against top class slick black fighters

Makes you think what the 31 year Hopkins would have done to Kovalev.

Hopkins WOULD NEVER allow a white fighter to destroy him.

Sure, Hopkins lost but Hopkins comes out of the fight with more cred in my book, his rep hasn't been tarnished at all. As for Kovalev, he's not the monster he was billed to be.

Same with GGG....let GGG fight Ward, Canelo, Cotto.....in fact I'll go lower than that. let him fight Quillin, Martinez....destroy one of that lot...then I'll take you seriously, especially if he destroys fighters from the 1st list.

Your full of shit. Why mention colour?

Had it been a black fighter like Stevenson, Cloud, Tarver, Pascal etc Hopkins would probably have won.

Just like Calzaghe, Kovalev didnt let Hopkins do what he needed.

Stevenson was lucky to win his last fight.

How would the Calzaghe that beat Hopkins have done against Kovalev? Would have been very interesting. Kovalev is dangerous when hes coming forward but if someones brave enough and has the work rate they could keep him quiet.

Because the old boy didn't fight to win he fought to survive. If he wasn't a geriatric legend he would be getting absolutely slaughtered for that non-effort. His punch output was pathetic.

If you take away the romanticism, and just judge Hopkins on his current standing as a top three rated lightheavy, then he wouldn't be getting any credit.

If Kovalev had ever been past eight rounds before the fossil wouldn't have heard the final bell.

I think yall forgetting who he fought tonight. Bhop is no pushover. No being able to KO an all time great hofer who has never been koed means what?

I think KOv is the real deal. Cant say same for GGG yet until he fights a real slick boxer.

ONe thing I can say...atleast they are trying...like bhop said....to fight the best out. unlike the supposed "pfp#1" fagweather

    Two schools of thought here:

The cynical, "Kovalev couldn't put away the old man so he must be shit" way of thinking....
and the, "Let's give Hopkins credit for showing up in incredible shape as he always does, and withstanding some heavy blows from Kovalev" attitude.

    Meh..... I'll choose the latter.

Hopkins tasted the power😳 of Kovalev in the first round, which put him in his rocking chair with his blanket pulled tight. Lol
Look, Hopkins finally showed his age and like plenty of us were saying Kovalev was in a bad spot because how much credit are you going to get for beating a 49 year old boxer.
Kovalev dominated Hopkins in every round, whenever Hopkins tried to make some noise, Kovalev had the stuff to keep Hopkins quiet and setting in that rocking chair.
Hopkins has a hell of a chin, and it kept him in the fight.
Like Hopkins said Kovalev is going to be around for a long time.
This is all the gloating I'm going to do, here it comes…I really enjoyed the fight!😝

It has to bruise Hopkins more that he was shut out, dominated and flat out boxed by a guy never seeing 'championship' rounds rather than being another early ko victim.

Kovalev boxed his ass off and showed top notch measure. He learned more last night than he had in his previous 6,7,8 fights.

Sir, this post is wrong on several levels!

Its purposely offensive. No problem with white fighters being abused purely for being white but as soon as something is said about a black fighter your called a racist.

Kovalev had a strategy that he stuck to until the final minute of the fight. That's why he won and it's why he didn't KO Hopkins. He and his trainer worked out a brilliant fight plan based on the understanding that Bernard relies on using angles and slipping punches to avoid initial attacks then uses either dirty tactics to damage and distract his opponents or he lunges with flurries of his own as his opponents are trying to reset. Kovalev controlled the pace and the distance by backing off every time he finished throwing his 2 or 3 initial punches thereby never giving Hopkins the chance to get his mount his own cheating offense. In the past Hopkins relied on fighters anxiety and anxiousness to have them make mistakes. Kovalev and his corner understood that Hopkins skills have diminished to the point that his only chance to score comes from what chances his opponents give him, so they just didn't hive him many chances to profit from. This win showed me that Kovalev can follow a plan when the fighter is following a predictable pattern where he doesn't have an offense and doesn't adapt. It said more about how finished Hopkins is than how good Kovalev is. Kovalev did make a lot of mistakes that other more capable and active fighters would have taken advantage of.
