Default Hatton fought Urango with a chest infection!

Ricky Hatton's Las Vegas debut was almost scuppered by a chest infection.

Hatton beat Juan Urango comprehensively on points in the gambling capital last Saturday night to take the IBF light-welterweight crown.

But now his dad Ray has revealed that the Hitman was on the verge of having to pull out after being hit by a chest infection 10 days before the bout.

And he claims this was the reason his son's stamina appeared to be a problem in the later rounds.

He told The Daily Express: "People have said Ricky looked jaded in the second half of the fight and I'm not surprised.

"Ricky suffered a really bad chest infection in the lead-up to the fight while out in Las Vegas.

"The doctor said it would linger for weeks. We carried on, but if the infection had started a few days later, we'd have pulled him out."

Hatton now has time to recuperate before his next appearance - against Jose Luis Castillo in Vegas in June.

    --

That explains why he looked so weak and sloppy then.

Ray Hatton is the source, huh? No chance of bias there. It's funny that they win the fight, yet there still making excuses. Could it be that they themselves know Hatton looked mediocre at best?

    Mediocre? He dominated the fight.

He had every right to pull out, but for his fans who travelled a long way he decided to box on. This will surely of had an affect on performance in addition to the body punches he took in the fifth. He adjusted his tactics to effectively shut out Urango.

If this was Mayweather or Cotto, boxing purists would be saying they adapted to the situation, give credit where credit is due, eh?

Like a broken record that cannot be fixed!!

He won the fight with ease and plenty to spare anyway, Hatton himself has made no excuses so give it a rest!

Man, I don't know what kind of fighters you like, but hatton's style is made for action. He is not a slick master like PBF. And hatton clinches when he comes in, everytime once he gets tired. You making excuses for hatton right there.. I just call Hatton ain't quite the fighter people had him crapped up to be.

Hatton is a excellent fighter, but i dont like excuses for why he keeps failing to deliver cause he has been not fighting to what people expected his last 2 fights. Not that this makes him bad, but with all the hype surrounding him after he beat KT I expected him to come over to fight in the states like a mini-albino-leprechaun version of mike tyson. It's not like he's fighting top 10 p4p here guys with collazo and urango. They're good boxers, but hatton is showing that he's not that much better than they are when he gets these lackluster wins and gases out, and excessivley clinches

Hatton threw 775 punches, which far exceeds the avarage for his division, and if truth be told Hattons output is not all that high in general. I dont think Hatton gassed out. He had the lead and Billy Graham told him to play it safe. Too safe really. But Hatton did just that. There was no doubt about the decision and it was a justified win. I dont see the problem.

Urango will be back and as for Collazo not being all that good then lets wiat and watch the Mosley fight. Im expecting Collazo to show a thing or two....

Wow, first he had a minor arm injury and now he also had a chest infection. What's next?? Was he fighting with two broken hands too?? The next thing you know he'll say that he was fighting with a prosthetic leg and a glass eye. Who cares?? You won the fight pretty easily, move on. These fighters are always making excuses when they lose, now they are making them when they win too?? Mayweather said he hurt his hand against Baldy, Tony said he hurt his wrists against Clottey, and Hatton with this crap. All these guys won their fights. Just move on and try to look better next time, we don't need your litany of excuses.

    CC;

I'm not saying he didn't have a chest infection, but i agree all this damage controll after fights you are taking shit for is bullshit. Get back to the gym, work hard and show in the next fight how much you have improved is the best and only way to show the last fight wasn't you at your best.

CC. Exactly. Just get better. Nobody walks into a fight 100% after months of training. We don't need to hear excuses when you're winning. Hatton's daddy is whining and making excuses to the public on Ricky's behalf. Come on, get the f outta here old man. Let your son do the talking from now on.
