Default Probably done already BUT****** What about Roy Jones jr vs Rocky Marciano

Looking at Jones in his prime moving up to Lightheavy and still being a phenom fighting at 175lbs.. I think he has more than enough to outclass Marciano who was fighting in the 180's at Heavyweight..

Roy has him in every category except power.. Rocky's punches would be coming in at a weeks notice compared to Roys blinding speed and reflexes...

I see a 12round master piece of a whitewash for Roy Jones....

    Wacha thinking??

I'd prefer to see it go 15 instead of 12...Jones does have all the skill advantages, but you can never count out a mauler like Marciano. Every fighter gets hit flush, no matter how good you are...

    An interesting thread JT,

    An interesting thread JT,
in return.... I agree with the flush part, but I just see Roy giving to many angles and leaving Rocky off balance not being able to set up his power shots. I just see Roy ripping off alot of Combos to the body, head and just outclassing Marciano leaving him looking like a statue in there

Its all too interesting..And could never be settled unless in someway shape or form it happened..
Which we know is obviously impossible...
Roy outspeeds. outskills, and has the potential to make a rocky marciano look foolish..
But roy could not knock him out..
But Rocky was in great shape..A total mauler.. fit enough to keep coming for 15 rounds and a very heavy hitter .Especially for an 180 pounder..
Say this was at lightheavy..Roy has some power there.. Still would say there would be no chance of a roy jones ko though..
Also one factor is that in both the jersey joe and the ezzard charles fights rocky came back from knockdowns to win by knockout.. So who knows ..It might have come down to the length of the fight or timescale in which it happened.. example..

Rjj- marciano in the 50's 15 rounds.. I might be inclined to think an extremely late stoppage for rocky..
Or over such a period rocky might be stopped on a factor like cuts..

The same fight over 12 rounds in the last twenty to fifteen years i would say that rocky would be stopped by a referee most likely..

I do think Marciano is overrated, however he was much faster and I believe more powerful than John Ruiz, and Ruiz, for the schooling he took from Jones, did manage to rock him in the first round. If Roy came into the fight around 175-180 he'd have the speed to beat him easily IMO. If he tried to fight with the weight he did against Ruiz, I think he'd get put to sleep.

In a 12 round fight Jones wins every single round, easily. BUT Rocky would have a punchers chance no doubt. And in a 15 round fight might get Roy late, after Roy was tired from beating on him the whole way.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"

Marciano has a punchers chance. But I don't think he'd have the chance to win a single round from Roy. The ONLY chance Marciano has is landing the "one" punch that changes the fight. But the prime version of Roy made his whole career on not catching that shot so I think Roy would outbox and bust up Marciano but Rocky would never give up and keep on searching for that final shot.

Joe Frazier IMO beats Roy Jones Jr. at heavyweight, but not Rocky Marciano... he isn't fast enough, and he is too open defensively.

Marciano ALWAYS has a punchers chance. That's all he ever had. He would take 4 punches to get 1 in. Before the KO in the 13th round in the Walcott fight, Walcott landed 3 times as many punches as Marciano. But he was a former catcher, actually tried out for the Cubs. He didn't make it because of a strong arm. He fought in a crouching position and while he wasn't fast, he was explosive. And had about as hard of a right hand as boxing has ever seen.

And RJJ would probably bust him up real real bad. Wouldn't be a problem for Rocky, he fought Ezzard Charles with a 1 inch split up his left nostril. Every time he breathed through his nose, it would flap. Spectacular fighter Marciano was. But I really don't think he would catch RJ. Honest feeling. Prime RJ is pretty close to untouchable. But you can never say that with absolute certainty. And if he did end up on the business end of a Marciano lunging right hand, good night RJ.

So my gut says RJ, my brain says RJ. I guess my heart is indifferent. But by no stretch of the imagination would it be surprising that Rocky catches him and knocks him cold.
