    Default creatine?

    I have read all the things posted about creatine but still cant really make my mind up . so guys would or would you not reccomend taking it in the off season when not having to make weight? yes/no with reasons would be quality guys.

    Why not give it a go, see if it helps. It can make you retain water but on the otherhand you might get more quality in your speed/power sessions.If making weight isn't an issue at the moment then you might as well satisfy your curiosity. Nothing ventured.......

    I use it, but mostly because it helps me recover from my workouts more efficiently.

    I've been pleased with it. Just make sure that you keep yourself well hydrated as it does tend to pull some water out of your system.

    It was the big hype about 8 years ago. seems mostly to be a water retainer so it seems to add some size and help recovery. How much is just mental I don't know. If you look bigger you may "feel" stronger and then work harder.

    In terms of hypertrophy it does little more than water retention... supposed to make you metabolise protein better but I'm skeptical as to if it does/how much it does.

    It's easier to get dehydrated on it and it can also give you a calcium deficiency... but as long as you keep drinking water and don't shy away from some dairy in your diet that won't happen... the calcium one is pretty unlikely.

    It's supposed to make you stronger and give you 'more endurance'... according to the containers etc anyway...

    Not exactly true... all you are doing is saturating your muscles with Creatine Phosphate... which is an energy source... it will help you in activities that use the ATP CP energy system... short efforts at maximum intensity... it won't actually make the amount of force that your muscles can contract Significantly larger and it won't do anything for your endurance... you might be able to sprint for 2-5 seconds longer before slowing etc... But that is not 'endurance'

    Always fancied trying it but obviously because I am pretty tight at 81kg I can't afford any water retention. What I would say is to eat red meat... don't over cook it or you'll kill all of the nutrients but creatine is stored in muscles... by us and animals... you'll get a bit of it in red meat but won't be over saturating your self with it.

    It's still not a black and white deal (like a lot of things in sports science... ) but that's my take on it at the moment for boxers.

    Of the top of my head, like everthing. we produce creatine a bodily function to create more energy for muscle. But it is not found in liver or Kidneys so the waiste product cant get out of the system and overtaxes the reproduction organs. I read a report in the 89 Biochemestry of Execise it frightened the life out of me.
