No he's just another average heavyweight. the division sucks and the champions are bums.Originally Posted by tysonbruno

He'll hopefully entertain for a few years and act as a stop gap but he's certainly not a fighter to define an era.
Unfortunately nobody seems to be coming through at all.
I'm hoping that eventually it will turn full circle. Maybe some of America's best young athletic talent of tomorrow may see becoming a top American heavyweight as being more attractive than going into the NFL as there really isn't a great deal of competition out there for them.
Any American who can fight his way out of a paper bag will now gain HUGE exposure. If I were a 6 ft 4 13 year old black kid from the hood right now I'd be looking at making a name for myself in boxing rather than NFL right now.
He's not average - average doesn't outpoint James Toney or go 12 rounds with Wladdy. He'll definitely have a title by the end of the year - for Fuks sake, Briggs and Maskaev hold titles.Originally Posted by SEANIE

And the only reason i give him that is because... The average is crap.... Cmon the days that Valuev and Briggs are belt holders, and what are we supposed to compare peter to?
If we compare him to anything in the era's before him. he will = Sh!t on a stick
He has a devastating punch. If he lands it.
I've yet to see anything special from him that would make me say "OMG, he's the one"
What really impresses me most though is this.Originally Posted by Big_Deuce

I think Peter has the chance to be the most dominant right now and for years to come.
The problem with HWs that are coming in now is that they realize it is not the most talent rich and come in too complacent. Even Peter thought that just because he has great power, he would beat anyone they put in front of him easily. I think that after the loss to wlad and the close fight with Toney, he realized that he had to become more serious if he wanted to be taken more seriously.
IMO, he has taken the next step and as long as complacency doesn't creep into his head and he keeps improving, he will be the dominant HW for quite some time.

But as the question asks, is he the heavyweight to fill the current void? u have to think in terms of the time we live. The heavyweight division at the moment i think can be unified by Peter provided he gets the right fights at the right time. However, i also agree, that the heavyweight division in any better state, wouldn't allow peter the opportunity, because, as much as i like him, if the next tyson, lewis, marciano, louis comes along, he's gonna get stopped in his tracks. By todays standards, he is the saviour of the heavyweight division, his power, size and personality has the potential to make the division popular again.
anyone that thinks peter is the champ we have been waiting for please reply after this...
And tell me What performances he has displayed that would make THE heavyweight MAN we been looking for. I see 1 win over a blown up middleweight, that has only beatin a beatup, hurt, past his prime holyfield, and john ruiz.
So far, the one loss peter suffered has told me more about him, than all his wins combined
and toney had to use steroids to win that fightOriginally Posted by Big_Deuce

Also, I don't think the Klitchkos are "the HWs we've all been waiting for" either -- but they're both better than Sam Peter.
Why Peter?Wladimir Klitschko is the most exciting and skilled heavyweight out there.![]()
wlads about as good a hw as weve seen since a prime riddick bowe.
not lummox lewis.....
dont even mention holyfield cause hes always been garbage.....
wlad is damn good but doesnt get near the exposure that he should because hes from russia
and to answer your question, HELL NO!
