against some bum named Ralph West should win really. Does anyone think he could be a champ? He fought well against KLIT!

I agree completely. I think with sweet pea training him he will definately be a champ soon. I even think after some more experience he would give wlad a better fight than the first one.

I hate it that he dropped his other trainer.

They seemed to get along so well & when he generally listened to him he seemed to fair pretty well. I like Brock...but he's not the complete package & I don't think that Sweet Pea will add anything to the pot to strengthen the mix. You either got it...or you don't.

But surely with more ring experience against the higher fighters i really think training of him would only benefit. Brock dont need to be fighting bums for too long imo. His next fight should for sure be a step up because he is getting older. But with the right oppostion i really think he will get another shot quite soon. I fight with Thompsonwould be good imo. If he fight Thompson i think that would boost him enough so show is worthy of fighting for a title and by doing that he would wipe out one of the bigger names in the devison. Sam Peter-Calvin Brock would be a nice one.

At this point I really think so too. Peter is really the improved article.

Disagree. I think Brock would beat Peter handily. Peter can show a shotgun jab and somne defense against someone who's shorter then him and has to lunge to get to him. But he still loops his punches the same way, I don't think he'd beat Brock.

Agreed about Sweet Pea as a trainer. A fighter named Dorin Spivey brought him on as a trainer and his career, which was already in an inverted spin, crashed and burned.

Calvin Brock is your typical fringe contender. He will always beat the guys he should beat, but he'll never beat a top heavyweight, like Wlad or Peter. He just doesn't have the weapons to be a true heavyweight contender.

I don't expect the change in trainers to improve anything. I've always been of the opinion that Hall of Fame athletes make horrible trainers/coaches/managers. It's just impossible for them to relate to guys who can't do the things they could do.
Sure, Whitaker was a smart fighter, and there must be tricks of the trade that he could teach a fighter, but so much of what he did was things that you could never teach. I will be surprised if he is successful as a trainer.

I just read today that Gatti may start working with Whitaker as well. I think that one is pretty funny. A trainer who always focused 100% on defense, working with a fighter who only cares about offense.

    I agree 100% about Brock !

I feel that Whitaker could be a good trainer . I do see what your saying about maybe Pete not having the patience needed to see the job through with less skilled folks. a trainer has to be a father type figure in lot of ways. caring and nurturing inspiring and knowledgeable .. I know Whitaker is inspiring and knowledgeable , but the other I am not so sure .

Yeah, you're right on the money, because when he came up against Klitschko he found himself out of his depth, against a fighter who was his superior and he didnt really have many ideas or Plan B's and C's to deal with him. To be honest, I don't think that many of today's great fighters will bother turning into trainers because they've got the big bucks already.

I don't think so....I think Calvin's defense and good short punches would trouble Sam Peter.

They are both good fighters though

I think it comes down to Peter's explosiveness. I don't think Brock could handle Peters power. I don't see Calvin hurting Peter. Peter has that Ray Mercer, David Tua type neck and build ,

A good chin at Heavyweight is positive factor.. it keeps you in the fight when its going tuff.

Brock does not really roll with the shots per say , Brock takes them flush on, I don't see a positive outcome for Brock when this happens.
