I can't give him too much grief over that, though. Diaz was starting to put the hurt on him, and he decided he'd had enough. I wonder how many of us would keep fighting in that situation - it's easy to point fingers and call names, but when was the last time most of us were in a world class boxing ring getting the crap pounded out of us?
Did you just say Freitas looked fineOriginally Posted by Rick_Rack
Did you see the round before he quit on his stool? He was getting hammered and hurt on every exchange
He was getting beaten down, he was exhausted, the fight wasn't going to turn his way, he had nothing on his punches. Maybe his corner should have saved him from it by stopping it themselves.
He's just obviously not one of those guys who's willing to do anything to win, he's not a guy like Corrales. Seemed like he was almost relieved when the fight was over. Glad that he's gotten out of boxing rich and without getting hurt.
Yeah its a stretch to say he was fine, he was getting broken down badly. Obviously there are lots of guys who have taken more brutal beatings and fought on but he wasn't fine.
Yea he got tagged the 8th round but he tagged Diaz as well early they clamed he was at his best Suarez told him it was close and the fight was starting now it was not the time to shake your head noooo and walk out ever heard of second winds well hey he wont ever know by quitting! ! !

maybe he quit because, he feels theirs nothing left to prove and his in peace with what his already accomplish and its time to let the younger kid take the hard battle,Originally Posted by Rick_Rack
hey he did quit but he put on a war for the younger kid who proved to him that diaz did deserve to win.
I think its a classic, but there will be out there that feels macho and the need to call others a quiter or a punk, but freitas is a fighter more then any fan can say for them selves when all they have done is watch.
Well Suarez isn't in there taking punches and trainers say a lot of stuff to keep their fighters motivated. But I think Freitas knew in his heart that he wasn't ok, and that the fight wasn't going to turn his way. So you want a trainer to throw a fighter in there who's getting hammered for hope that he'll gain a second windOriginally Posted by Rick_Rack
Well DIaz was still in his first win and by that logic his second wind would outweigh Popo's if he had to dig. Either way, Popo wasn't going to win that fight and was gonna keep getting hammered. What you'll never know also is how seriously Freitas could have been injured. Supposed he goes out there and gets seriously damaged then people talk about he should have stopped fighting before he got hurt real bad but at least he went out on his shield right
However if he quits on his stool like he should if he is really hurting(and he knows it far better then his trainer) He's called a punk and a quitter. So he is damned twice no matter what he does, the only problem is he may not live to regret the latter. Think about it man.
Well I thought he had almost no chance to turn the fight around. He was getting tagged repeatedly, he was getting hurt badly but even more importantly he was just exhausted, he had nothing on his punches, just pitter pat punches.
I never thought that Diaz was that hurt in the fight, considering he was taking Freitas' punches well early, when Freitas wasn't tired, I don't see how Freitas would have gotten to Diaz late when he had nothing on them. And he wasn't gonna win a decision, he was just getting outworked.
I guess it just depends on how you look at it, if he had pretty much no chance to win, should he have just gone on taking punishment?
No mas
I just wanted to point out something for all you who don't understand spanish, the translater was translating incorrectly. The trainer was not saying "the fight is not over" he was saying "this fight is over" and Popo was not shaking his head "No", he was nodding "Yes". They all knew that the fight was not winnable and they did the right thing in stopping the fight.
Thats the thing though, we are not championship boxers. If you are a championship boxer, you don't get compared to the average joe (ie: us here at saddo). You get compared to your PEERS. Boxing has forged out many different standards over its history, and one of those standards is that championship fighters should never QUIT that easily. So for you to justify Popo quitting by saying "well the average Joe would have quit too" - thats just dumb on your part IMHO.Originally Posted by bcollins
