Default Barrera, Marquez ready for war!(read it)

    http://www.fightnews.com/fightnews_2...pJqaKpfDe.html

Mexican ring legend Marco Antonio Barrera says when he faces Juan Manuel Marquez on Saturday in Las Vegas that fans can expect the all action Barrera from the past, not the ring technician version of Barrera who methodically dissected Rocky Juarez in his last fight. "I'm planning to go toe-to-toe in this fight," promises 'The Babyfaced Assassin.' I want to give the fans and everybody in attendance a great, great performance and a great fight.

Annnnd according to Doug Fischer, highly regarded boxing scribe,MAB has looked simply awesome in sparring with BLAZING speed.

Wow. I think I'm going to shield myself from the results and download this one on a friends comp if I have to. I really can not wait.

I figured Marquez would be faster, maybe I'm in for a surprise? I would be foolish to go against Barrera, very rarely do we see a fighter who rises to the occasion quite like MAB.

Where the hell has the build up for this one been? I know more about Pac's bout with Solis then I do this one.

Anyone remember this fight being scheduled in the summer of 99 ?

I think Barrera cant hang with JMM for too long if he goes toe to toe , JMM has quickercounterpunching skills and hits to hard i dont know if MAB has the appetite for a prolonged battle .

Barrera can make anyone miss but he's vulnerable going toe to toe at this stage of his career .

I remember him saying the same thing before the Naseem Hamed fight.

Famous quote : ' I'm looking forward to testing my chin against his bombs '

MAB is much too smart a fighter to make this a brawl for the entire duration of the fight. He will mix it up. For me the key factor is that we all know that Marco has that nasty edge to him when he needs it...he has proven he can go to war. Not so sure about Marquez. he obviously showed a lot of heart against Manny...but he can also look tentative. Both guys are highly skilled though. Should be a fantastic fight.

Remember when he fought Nas , Barrera said , " I'm going to throw punches many times and put pressure on all the time " ?

Barrera put on a great performence off the backfoot .

But honestly that fight was alot closer than everybody suggests .

    MAB worthy winner though .

    Some more info.....

    http://www.maxboxing.com/Fischer/Fischer031307.asp

Former WBC featherweight title holders, veteran Guty Espadas Jr. and 23-year-old Rodolfo Lopez (both of whom were once trained by Marquez’s respected coach, Nacho Beristain), joined Japan’s 130-pound champ Yusuke Kobori (a 19-2-1 fighter from Tokyo with a no. 10 ranking in the WBC) and undefeated (14-0) lightweight prospect Brandon Rios to make up the bulk of Barrera’s sparring.

All were expected to bring the high-held left handed counter-punching style that Marquez is known for into their reportedly lively sparring sessions with Barrera, who admits that the style gave him trouble.

“We tried to learn [Marquez’s style] in camp,” he said. “I tried to box against my sparring partners and I really couldn’t do it. I couldn’t learn it, so we’ll have to go back to being the old Barrera for this fight. I can’t bring the new Barrera to beat him. I’m going to have to fight him.”

He admits that his imminent retirement had much to do with his decision.

“I’ve been thinking about it for the last three years,” he said. “It’s kept me up at night. My family told me to go ahead and hang them up, but I wanted to have a few more big fights before I left the sport. This will be my last year. I will not be the typical fighter who announces his retirement and then fights again. When I’m done, I’m done.”

So Barrera intends to make his last year in the sport count for something.

Pacquiao will make him retire and this fight is gonna be AWESOME.

Gonna have a bb-q in honor of these legends. Not going to miss this one.
