If you are looking at just pure boxing skill then it has to be Ishe Smith or Steve Forbes. I think that they are the two best skill wise out of all of them. But I dont think that they will have the most success thou.

Steve Forbes is the most talented but Reid you would have thought should be the best cuz he is bigger and was a WBC champ for a while.

    Alfonso Gomez for me..

He has a very watchable style, really good fighter but such an underachiever..

I voted for Peter Manfredo Jr.

He bullshitted his way to a Calzaghe title fight.

Most improved fighters of that bunch since their appearances on the show
    Joey Gilbert
    Peter Manfredo Jr
    Sergio Mora
    Cornelius Bundrage

Joey will continue to win little belts but nothing more. Has the WBO NABO Middleweight Title He is a great self promoter and a jack of all trades. The least experienced of the show and gave everyone a run for their money especially against Manfredo.

Manfredo moved up in weight and looks promising. Stamina seemed to be an issue although he was already fighting 12 rounders before the show. Looks great under the guide of Justin Fortune. Not the smartest fighter of the lot but has a big heart and has bounced back thus far from his past bouts on the show.

Mora still working hard and has learned to find some power in his shots. Not a big puncher but the speed he has, he has been able to put a little more power behind his punches thanks to his new coach. (Mora was at a stale mate but they are looking at some one like duddy in his next fight in June?)

Bundrage was terrible on the show has to have thee most ugliest style of them all. Very big for a Light Middleweight. Found a new trainer and learned to box a little and not Ricky Hatton his opponents. Everyone was totally shocked when he did a number on Norberto Bravo by out boxing him.
I have not seen more on him since. I know he is/did fight in the UK (no spoiler will be mentioned) I have not seen this fight.

Manfredo gets his undeserved title shot and in 6 days we shall see what happens.

Mora needs to step it up and stay active with about 3 to 4 fights a year if anyone is going to take him serious from now on. His next title shot will not be handed to him, I don't think.

I guess we can say these are just your avarage joes who buy luck or buy chance got some air time on a show and have a bit of popularity. Some have been able to capitalize while others should be found on the where are they now.

Bonsante still fighting and still losing but he needs to make a living and earn more money since he does not have the greatest job in the world. He still gives it all he has.

I will stop here. Who cares? I like the Contenders but I hate writing. And 80% of the people here could give a rat's azz about any of these guys. I did watch the shows and if they have Heavy's in season 3, I wont mind because as it stands I don't watch heavy's so this just might be the uuumfff I need to force me to take a little bit more notice and get me to watch the real heavy's pro freak show.

And the most disapointing has to be Ishe Smith. I don't know what to say. I think one of the first things in boxing that I learned was the jab and yet Ishe Smith totally abandon's it in his fight against Powell. I am not saying he is done. I don't know what to say about this guy. Speechless.

The show should not have been called the Contender.

What would you have called the show?

I guess with a name like Reality TV Boxing, the show would not have been as succesfull.

I wish Oscar would have continued that show he had and made more. What was it called? The next great champ? I never did get to finish watching that show cus it was pulled off the shelf I know the shiet was cheesy but I liked it. It was better than American Idol IMO
I don't remember a single fighter from his reality tv boxing show

Hey maybe after Oscar loses to Floyd he can pitch his show to ESPN since Contender is going to HBO. God knows I have seen much cheesier shiet on ESPN so called sports network.
Hey that reminds me, Wednesday nite fights are comming back this month

I really like both of these fighters. However, I was pulling for Michael Clark in the 2nd one because we were from the same gym back in the day. Plus I helped him buy his first tooth.
It feels good to be back home.

If you are referring to Johnathan Reid the guy is F****** terrible. Schooled by Brinkley and kicked out in the first round of the Contender season 1, he followed it up by getting knocked out by Miguel Espino and has lost 3 out more times since then. His last 6 fights he's lost five being stopped twice. When you only fight 5 rounders that's pretty bad.

And contrary to what Game said he has never been a world champ. He fought for a title against William Joppy in 2000 and big suprise he got knocked out then as well

I'd fancy him to give Tarrick a decent fight but that's about it. Him and Brent Cooper would probably be a pick em.

By far the best performers have been Sergio Mora and Steve Forbes. Forbes just schooled one of boxing's top prospects last weekend and got robbed by the judges.

Mora has beaten Manfredo twice so why people feel Manfredo has done more is completely beyond me.

Mora's lopsided victory over Eric Regan is bigger than either of Manfredo's wins over Spina and Pemberton. Regan beat Yory Boy Campas and has a solid record, and Sergio also stopped Archak Termeliksetian who up until recently was very highly rated.

Manfredo has done well for himself but he's succeeded more through projecting the right image than actual boxing ability. He was eliminated in the first round of the tournament, barely scraped through in every other round once voted back in and then lost every round in the final with Mora.

He did much better in the rematch but Mora was cut horribly and managed to recover his composure and come back.

I'm rooting for Peter to do well against Calzaghe but the only reason people are voting for him are because he's more likeable.

Going into the Contender he was world ranked, as high as 3 in the world with the WBO. He's underachieved if anything.

Sergio had only had 11 fights and he won the whole show. Joey Gilbert has done really really well also.

I'd rate Manfredo and Ishe Smith as the biggest underachievers on the show given their supposed pre-contender pedigree.

    Here endeth the lesson

Yeah he looked like he had abit of class and the confidence to go wit it. It just never happend for him . Duno what went wrong , maybe he just wasnt as good as we thought .

Bilbo - I think he was refering to Robin Reid . He was world class fighter and beat the current longest reigning world champ by 5 rounds on 1 judges scorecard

Ah well that makes sense, but I'd hardly call him a Contender fighter just because he fought on a Contenders vs UK tour.

You'ven never gotten over Manfredo being brought back. You one of only 3 people in the world who things Manfredo lost the 2nd fight. Unfortunately, the other two were california judges. Manfredo definately won 2 rounds, in the second fight. I give him three. Unfortunately, Mora won a few rounds more convincingly than Manfredo won any of his rounds. And for the record, Mora punches about as hard as my baby sister.

What has Mora done since winning? Nothing. He hasn't stayed busy enough, and he acts like a prima donna. Turned down the Taylor fight (smart, but cowardly). Peter is fighting the Ring champ in his backyard, and most people have given him credit for developing his skills significantly since the show. He doesn't seem like an underachiever to me. Maybe he underachieved on the show by not winning, but I wouldn't call him an underachiever for his career.
