Sit-ups, or more preferably, crunches. Hold some weights on your chest while doing them for a better burn.

If you a wanting a visible six pack then your body fat has to be below 8%. A visible six pack has more to do with body fat than the actual strenth of your abs. If you think about it there are some boxers out there that can take some wicked body shots but dont have that visible 6 pack, so you know they have some really strong abs.

Bicycle crunches are great for getting all of your ab muscle groups...........
And also I think a small layer of fat helps you to absorb punches just a hair.

And Leg Throwdowns Which Is Ausome Its Were You Lay Down And Have A Partner You Put Your Head Between The Feet And They Stand Above You Then You Bring your Legs Up To Them And They Push Them Back Down I Always Have My Bro Push Them Down Hard And Fast, And You Cant let Your Feet Touch The Ground It Is Such And Ausome Workout.

when i was ill i would come out with some nasty coughs that used to harden my abs the next morning my abwere sore like it had lactic acid build up in it, then i noticed each time i cough my abs harden
