I have been lurking here and reading more or less religiously for a few months now, but this is my first post. Mainly because havent really felt I was able to contribute with anything new here (especially since the general level of posting is of surprisingly high quality)...
However I decided today, as I was once again reading (very reasonable points) about how lack of availabilty is hurting (killing?) boxing, that I should actually write something here as well. And while my nick might give away both my country and my bias (don't worry, I am (or consider myself) a bit more objective than some of my compatriots here), my first post will be about another interesting semi-Danish invention than my namesake Mikkel Kessler. Oh, and yes, Mikkel_K is my real name - different surname though - but this is very common in Denmark anyway. Kinda like being Joe_C in England or James_T in America or something like it.
Anywaymy first post will be an attempt to convince you all to get Joost (see
www.joost.com). I should start by saying that I am by no means involved in this concept, I just stumbled upon it, and now I have become quite fond of it. Joost is a programme that enables you to watch high quality tv on your computer for free. They are selling it as 'exactly as watching regular tv' or something; dunno about that, but it is in a much better quality than anything else I have ever streamed. The man behind the program is Dane Janus Friis, who became famous with the p2p-programme KaZaa (of which you may have heard) and then made a fortune by selling his next programme Skype (of which you propably have heard) to eBay.
Anyway, why should boxing fans care about Joost? Well, one of the featured channels worldwide is SecondsOut.tv, which means there is a bunch of boxing matches out there. The fights currently available is:
Brian Magee v Jason Barker - Super Middleweight
Damaen Kelly v Jose Lopez Bueno - EBU Flyweight Title
Igor Dzagouev v Tim Brown - Light Heavyweight

As you can see, the fights arent exactly new, and not all these fighters have set the world on fire (to my knowledge Klassen is the only one of the lot to ever win an alphabelt title - and didnt take long before he lost it again). Still, I have now watched most of these matches, and there are definetely a few good scraps in there, and since they are free, and available in a good quality, it might be of interest to some of you.
But what really makes me think people here should consider taking an interest in Joost, is this:

Showtime Boxing putting their matches out there, making everybody able to see them for free... I guess it will be old matches, but still this could be a very cool move. Unfortunately this channel will only be available to people in the US
Could be an interesting start though.
