I read an interview
He said Ive been trying lyakhovich, briggs and Jirov for ages.. They all ask for more then they are worth..
Im not retired and im not going to wait around ( something to that effect) Im just going to keep busy and stay sharp by having some tune ups
Basically not getting rusty![]()

Probably needs to get back that winning feeling, for a guy like Toney nothing would get his confidence up more than beating some cat who he earns more in one fight than the other guy in 5 years.![]()
Remember the good old days, we miss you Marco!
Good. Toney and Jirov would literally kill each other. Neither guy has been the same since that fight imo
Psalm 144: Blessed be the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle
It'll be nice to see james back in though.. And i'll give him a break since he's never been one to intentionally pad his record..

Danny Boy is better then you think, he will keep your ass honest ! I think James has the skills to win no doubt, but it aint no cake walk by any means.Originally Posted by ICE COLD BOXING
Looking at his record thats a fair point, even though he's lost 3 of his last 4 fights, the guys he's lost tough have 1 defeat between the 3 of them, so your right, hopefully he puts up a good test for James. I just hope he doesn't go in there with the 'opponent' mentality and looks for the big (I mean literally hugee, almost bowling ball sized) scalp of James 'Salad Out' Toney.Originally Posted by Lords Gym

That article was from Jirov's camp.
Toney had no idea what the Jirov rematch was about. He never heard about it, I wrote an article about it. He is scheduled to do 2 movies that both start filming later in the year, honestly, he did not want to talk about his fighting career. I honestly feel he is on the verge of retiring just by talking to him. And the guy could eat anyone under the table, in fact I'm pretty sure he could eat the table too.
I would be at this fight if it weren't for finals![]()
Nahh im certain i read something direct from james toney..Originally Posted by amat
I know this because i remember the exact quote.. I dont care who it is, hell i'll fight my momma if i have to
Thats pure toneyCertainly didnt sound like jirov to me! lol
But yea i have seen video interviews with him..and he is crazy big inbetween recent fights..
I mean absolute shop mobility big
I wonder if he ever lays in bed thinking if i had the discipline of bernard hopkins i could have been an utter all time great

To me, that sounds like he's going to go down the same route as Shannon Briggs, beating the bum of the month until he gets another shot at the title. Not exactly good for the game, and when he says "they're asking for more than they're worth", that sounds to me like he wants a big share of the pie, when he's only won one fight in recent times, and that was four fights ago....Originally Posted by Tito_BHB
Toney may have said that but he was never scheduled to fight Jirov, he had no idea what that was about and how that got out. He's got no interest in fighting Jirov, his publicist and the Goosens said the same thing. Of course Toney says something different every other time out, but I think it's safe to say he has no interest in Jirov.Originally Posted by Tito_BHB
Lol your right.. Toney does change his tune depending on who's he talking to!!Originally Posted by amat
Lol..
Its like when he says well roy jones is a bitch, beat me only cos i wasnt in shape and properly prepared for the fight etc..
But at the same time he has said..AND its on record ..Check back to beyond the glory roy jones jr!
Roy is a great fighter who beat me fair and square in my prime!
Granter toney did close his camp..But that wasnt all that was too it.. Roy is just a great fighter lol
God bless james though.. One of my all time fave's!

One of my favorite fighters of all time but I wish he'd just go ahead and retire.
I sometimes think that..Originally Posted by OumaFan

He is the exact opposite to roy jones.. Roy is a great fighter who skillwise has prob seen better days but can still make the fights happen..This considering we just forget his let downs with ego and money issues..
But james even showed in the first peter fight that he could still be in with the best but its just so sad that he isnt motivated to train right nowadays..
I mean One thing i think about james toney is this..
When he was at 160 and 168 a defensive master and at the time a pound for pound top 3 candidate at LEAST!
Who could have thought his career would have come to this..
A defensive master who never got hit .. Turned heavyweight in bad shape but still at the top..
Taking needless shots because hes not in the same shape he was when he could dodge them..
I mean..Hes gotten so lazy he doesnt even dodge as many punches as he used to..
Its amazing that behind that great defense lies probably one of the greatest chins in boxing!
And now he has suffered a minor brain injury as the result of boxing.. It is minor..Minor enough to still be able to box, but still to be injured all the same is crazy when you have the skill of james toney
