what does matchmaker mean?

just want to know what the "matchmaker" does in the world of boxing.

Not entirely sure but wd hav thought that (for example) sports networks match maker would be responsible for finding suitable opponents for the shows 'home' fighters. Obviously he wouldn have the final say they would have to be approved.

hopefully someone who actually knows for sure can add more info.

that is one way of going about it. Actually a good match maker is the star of the show. For example Don 'War a Week" Chargin; for 40 years he has been the top match maker is so. Cal. because he makes competitive matches. His shows sell well with no marquee name , just on his rep.

Matchmaker means someone who is about equel to you. If your beat everyone people will say oh we have fond your match make which means we found someone who can beat you
