Default Friday Night Fights: The Peterson Brothers

Alright so we've been in kind of a lull recently with the ESPN 2 fights, ever since the very good Diaconu bout, Jason Litzau, the Glenn Johnson card and the very good Kelvin Davis - Terry Smith fight. The Zahir Raheem headlined card was weak, we had a woman's fight on Wednesday but now we get another look at two of the best prospects in boxing.

Anthony Peterson is the more exciting of the two so he'll be in the main event against a guy nobody knows about, but has a very good KO record. Anthony is a come forward type fighter, punches in combinations and has serious pop, a real exciting fighter. Judging by the guy he's facing record and the fact that he is a southpaw, this could be a fun one.

Lamont has a very good jab, a more patient fighter, fights on the outside a lot and has very good timing. A bit of a contrast from his younger brother but an effective style nonetheless. And it's not like he's boring or anything. His opponent, John Brown, has gone the distance with Steve Forbes, Miguel Cotto, Herman Ngoudjo, Robbie Peden, Jesus Chavez and he took Mosley eight rounds. And most of those were 12 rounds, so needless to say, he's more then apt competition for young Lemont.

On the undercard there are a handful of undefeateds, and the Anthony Peterson fight probably isn't going the distance so we might be able to see a few of them. Should be fun, can't wait for this one.

John Brown is what you would call a cagey veteran. This is a good test for Lamont. Even tho Brown is gettin pretty old.Look at his list of opponants, its sick. Calvin Grove, Jesus Chavez, Angel Manfredy, Gabriel Ruelas(won tko ,Shane Mosely, Diego Corrales, Robbie Peden (win UD), Forbes twice, Miguel Cotto, Herman Ngoudjo. Only Forbes and Mosely knocked him out.

That's an impressive resume. Definitely a tough fight unless he's spent.

Lamont Peterson looks simply fantastic. Very good body work. Not often the lead left hook to the body is used that much by a speed guy but he makes it work. Good jab and the combinations on the inside are very nice. Not using range that much, but but that is because he wants this guy on the inside, works so well from the top to the body and vice versa. Puts the right hand very well after the left hook.

He switches to th philly shell sometimes on the inside, something I've never seen him do before. And he fires the left hook especially good when he is rolling his shoulders. Otherwise, he kind of has a Winky Wright type defense most of the time. And again, fires very fast out of that guard.

He is absolutely dominating through 7. And I have to say this is among the most impressive performances on ESPN in recent memory even though Brown is 5'3. It's just what he's doing. Tune in if you can people, Lamont is making a statement. He looks very good.

Peterson started pummeling him to start round 8, the ref fell down trying to stop the fight and both fighters kind of stopped to see the decision. Referee got up and the fight was over.

Luis Ernesto Jose is a good example of building a record on table scraps.. you talk about a step up in class for Jose in this match

Yeah LG, I think Anthony is going to take him out early. He better, if he wants to follow that up. Maybe I'm just overexcited, but that was one hell of a performance.
