Im not Floyd fan at all but there is more to boxing than toe to toe slugfest sometimes using sweet science is pleasure to watch and these people who are saying Floyd should of brawled more are talking out there a** its funny because if you was Mayweather you would box and hit and not get hit and you certainly wouldn't be brawling a bigger man unless you got screws loose somewhere Whitaker used same tactics as Floyd no one hates him same with Willie Pep i know Floyd can sometimes be jack a** but you can't deny his talent and as my title says thats what boxing is all about.

I agree that Mayweather has not been getting the credit he deserves BUT I TOTALLY disagree that boxing is about hitting and not getting hit. That is certainly 1 interpretation of what this sports is about,but it's not the only one nor necessarily the most valid. Boxing can be about heart,blood and guts,testicular fortitude,the will to win etc etc. Everyone has different interpretations on what boxing should be about,it means something different to all of us.

Yea but all of those aspects you bring up are part of hitting, and not being hit.. It's simply the basis of which fights are scored and won. Heart, fortitude, will, don't mean a damn thing as to who wins if you can't use those attributes to land signifigant punches, and more of them than the guy your fighting.. At the end of the day you can't outland/outbox a guy who is there to fight as much as you are without matching his heart/fortitude/etc unless your just that much better.. Cus Demato once said that in boxing, the man with the stronger will always wins, unless one man is so much more skilled than the other, that his will is never tested... Either way, it all comes down to landing the more meaningful punches more often than your opponent.

In my book until someone can force Mayweather to fight different Mayweather should continue his style it works best for him and if i was in his shoes i would do too its not Mayweathers fault he is much better than his opp that no one can make him fight differently.

i'll tell u why. its cuz of people like larry merchant and a lot of people on this board who think boxing IS about blood and guts and want to see these athletes risk their brains and their very lives taking physical damage so that the fans can "get their money's worth". to me this is bullshit. as a boxer your job is to win as many fights while taking as little permanent damage as possible. Ali (in his younger years), Whitaker, Leonard, many times Delahoya himself, have all built their styles on this "hit and not get hit"; "stick and move" strategy designed for just this purpose. But nowadays, (and i really started to notice it more after Stallones annoying mongoloid cries of "TOE ta TOE..TOE TA TOE!" on The Contender, it seems like your average boxing fan wants to see blood and two guys wade in going toe to toe seeing who drops first. If you want this, go watch the ToughMan Championship if it's still on...dont criticize one of the best boxers the sport has seen in recent years because his fighting style lends itself to longetivity...and at the same time making sure he doenst wind up with Parkinson's or worse. It works and has won world titles in five different weight classes. And if you dont consider that greatness, I dont care who you are, you know nothing about boxing.

First of all, I don't really like OLDH and PBF (no real reason, I just prefer other fighters). I watched the fight objectively, you may say. I agree with you in a way, but don't agree with your logic that since Floyd agreed to fight a bigger man (out of his natural weight class) he should not "brawl". I think it would have been better if Floyd stuck to his weight class and dominated everyone (the same way he dominated Gatti) than use the weight difference as an excuse to not make a fight out of it. Funny thing is PBF wanted to prove that he is the better boxer. Is he a better boxer? There will be always two schools of thought. One would say that he was a better boxer because of his defensive skills, others will say he is not because he did not make a fight of of it or dominate OLDH. I see people use the term "boxing" to defend PBF. However, lets review the actual meaning of the "box". It is defined as "to hit using the hands or fist". Defense is crucial but hitting and scoring points is what wins the fight. Maybe that is why PBF won the fight. He probably got hit less. But did he dominate OLDH? PBF dominated Gatti. Not OLDH.

It would have been better if they fought a 15 rounder and mayber we would have seen a good fight during the championship rounds (14 or 15). Both men did look like they could have gone 10 more rounds after the 12th. Moreso with PBF. It does not do the sport good to know that two men who earned approximately $100 million combined looked fresh as daisies during the 12th and final round. Did they really give us our monies worth? You be the guess. All I know is that OLDH and PBF are right now laughing all the way to the bank while we are here, earning our measly salaries, arguing in this forum on who was better that night. Hmmm

yeah i second that,when a fighter boxes like that it really is a joy to watch imo.
of course we all love a tear-up but Floyd fights to the best of his ability and the funny thing was it was he who hurt Oscar and buckled his legs with a right hand in the 5th.
I didn't see Floyd in trouble once.
