    Default Excellent Antonio Margarito article

    http://www.maxboxing.com/Fischer/Fischer062807.asp

Explores a whole range of issues including his sparring, his camp and the writers own experience with regrads to Margarito. Excellent read.

hey.. i read it but prob forgot to post :P

Both this and Hopkins article were good.

I find Margarito very interesting as I think he is so unproven , but so many people speak so highly of him that I want to see what he is really made of

He's closing in on a decade of without a loss at Welterweight... he's the most proven welterweight on earth.

    cc for reading both.

Easily the most proven WW on earth. I love Cotto more than anyone but no way does he deserve to be above Tony on WW lists. Also,it's interesting to note, that most people at other major boxing sites bar Maxboxing, favour PW heavily. Even Freddy Roach said he thinks PW will win. Seems Margarito is the under dog here. Will make his victory all the sweeter.

Actually, I agree with them. P-Will is dangerous as hell, especially to the style Margarito has.
The problem is nobody thinks about boxing that way. His style will work against Margarito and the same goes for Tony... eventually.

Don't you think the Quintana and Judah wins are above anything that Margarito has really done though ?

In a word...no. People who criticse Margarito's resume either do not know much about his opponents OR have not seen either them fight or the actual fight themselves.

Quintana and Judah are excellent wins. On the other hand,Margarito has beaten a slick southpaw boxer who is highly under rated in Sergio Martinez. He's beaten former champion and decent boxer 6 heads Lewis. He's beaten current IBF champ Kermit Cintron.H'es beaten rock solid Joshua Clottey. These guys are just a few fighters Tony has beaten and they were big strong WW. They were just as proven at WW at Quintana. Judah only has 1 good win at WW,v Spinks and Margarito crushed Antonio Diaz who has a win over Spinks.

So no,Cotto has not done more than Tony at WW imo. The facts are there.

Great article! I've read/heard that Margarito is the real deal & read about a guy who sparred with him once saying he can't believe how tough he is.

Thankyou for reading the article,I'm glad you enjoyed. Have you first CC on me and welcome to the site. Margarito is indeed a very good fighter. I don't know if you have seen him in action but he is the total definition of an honest, hard working guy.

His defence is not amazing,he does not possess blinding speed but he has astounding stamina, grit, determination and heart and combined with good power in both hands and an awkwardness with how he punches and his size,he is a tough test for anyone at WW. I just hope he beats PW,it'll be a great fight,Williams as the tools to beat Margarito no doubt.

Thanks El Gamo! I actually just stumbled across this site & am really impressed with the knowledge of the boxing fans here. I was reading a # of different threads but the one about Floyd Jr. vs. Hearns or Sugar Ray, etc. really impressed me. A # of guys wrote exactly what I thought about those potential matchups.

Excellent points regarding Antonio! July 14th will be fun with 3 fights that night on HBO - also looking forward to Simms this Sat.!

    Thanks again!

ok fair enough, I completely admit i don't know much about Tony and his opponents so i need posts like that to educate me.

I still think the Judah and Quintana wins are better than Cintron and 6 heads though, I hardly count the clottey fight as Margarito looked so unimpressive.

Hahaha,;; would you discount Hatton's win over Collazo because he looked so unimpressive? Tony looked poor for the first part of the fight but picked up during the second half and people don't realise,he was carrying a wrist injury in addition to the ankle injury. The difference was he did not moan about as much as Clottey moaned about his injury.

I wouldn't completely discount it (Collazo fight) but i would never use it as an arguement as one of Hattons achievements , it was a bad night...

Anyway , i actually got hold of some of Tonys fights since my first posts on this thread a few days ago as i had only seen him against
    vs Cintron
    vs 6 Heads
    vs Kyvelos
    vs Santos
    vs Clottey
    vs Gomez
I just wanted to say ive been mostly very impressed, he is an absolute cardio machine and I think he deserves his shot at something big soon , assuming he beats Williams.

    vs Clottey
    Thats cricket
