    Default Gomez-McCall rematch Oct 19!

WBC #5 heavyweight Juan Carlos Gomez faces WBC #3 ranked International titleholder Oliver McCall in a WBC world championship eliminator on October 19th in Berlin's Estrel Convention Center. With the back injury suffered by Vitali Klitschko, the victor in this grudge match has a good chance to get his world title shot against the Oleg Maskaev-Samuel Peter winner in short order.

I was barely into boxing back in the 80s. I'd like to see McCall just to judge how good he is now. The guy has been on a winning streak. If Holyfield wins, maybe the 2 of them can meet up in a unification if McCall can snatch the belt too (I doubt he can beat Peter).

McCall has the WBC international belt. He should have gotten the Ibragimov fight over Holy IMO...I like McCall too, and am pulling for him..but this matchup isnt getting me excited ..judging from what happened last time. Gomez was the one all coked up instead of McCall.

MCall Is "touched".If Gomez can "keep his nose clean" He should duplicate there first fight. If not maybe we can see maskaev avenge his 1 rnd blowout vs. The atomic bull in 96'.I don't see oleg beating peter though.
McCall Has One of the thickest beards In recent memory and always had underrated pop.He was not huge champ in abilities but has hung tuff for 22 years. His good fights, IMO were "L" 12 vs.Tony tucker(absolute robbery),Ko 10 Henry akinwande(Shot out of the dark,He he)Tk 9 Bruce Seldon(TRain off The Tracks),W.12 Larry Holmes ,Ko 2 Lummox Loose's.King Kept This Guy Prisoner for years,I Think now he's Looking to make up for lost time

Actually the positive cocain testing for Gomez after their first fight was later revoked...
The fight was still rated as NC don't know why...,but Gomez had drug problems in the past...

    Either way its a junkie-match up ...

McCalls chances at getting a title shot looked pretty good until I heard that. He will have a very hadr tome beating Gomez imo. Gomez beat him handily the first time around (I know it was a NC but still) and I think this figth will end up putting McCall back at the bottom of the latter. I do want McCall to pull it off though.

I can't help but root for Oliver McCall. He's a head case, he's old, he can't keep his emotions in check, but that makes him more human to me, I guess. He's a tuff bastard too, you have to respect a guy who has NEVER been knocked down in 20 some odd years of fighting at HW. That is astounding! I would love to see McCall win a world title and fight Holyfield or the winner of McBride vs. Golota could be interesting too, not overly exciting, but still interesting.

I'm suprised McCall took this one. Sam was promised a title shot if he beat McCall. McCall is the closest to a title shot as he been in years. A repeat loss to Gomez would prove this to be a poor career move. Even if Gomez tests positive for drugs again.

Gomez is to skilled and to young for the Atomic Bull. McCall best days are at least 10 years behind him

Gomez is really a very good fighter. Aside from his one round loss to Yanqui Diaz hes been pretty impressive and underrated. I could see him giving anyone in the division trouble.

Agreed, but he needs to work on his conditioning...he tends to get tired in the later rnds a bit

I would actually like to see McCall win this and get another title shot...At his age IMO he is still not to be slept on....Not saying it is a fight I am looking foward to just that I think it would be interesting to see hoe he does against the current crop of HW's at the top
