Default Help needed with a foot problem

Hi all. I've been having a recurring issue with my right foot. Just behind the 2nd and third toes across the back of my foot towards the ankle i've had pain on walking/running. It flares up periodically but mostly after plenty of skipping. A month ago i gave it a good 2 weeks rest and it settled. But it's come back twice now. When i do anything from the ball of my foot like running, skipping, moving back and forth/side to side on the bags and at times walking i get pain. I end up walking on the outside of my foot most of the time, and when it's bad it is difficult to walk. I'm concerned i might have a stress fracture. I will see the Dr but was wondering if anyone here has had a stress fracture and could tell me what it's like.

    Cheers.

Hey man, sorry to hear about the injury...
It could possibly be a stress fracture.
#Ihad the same issue on going for about 2 months before i saw a doctor, i was laid up for 5-7 weeks but now im back and it's perfect.
Honestly, rest is the only way...horrible but true.

While it's injured try swimming using the top of your body only, or rowing.....don'ty let training drop entirely

Thanks hitmandonny have a cc. I think that's what i'm going to have to do. I'll see the Dr in a few days. Thanks for the tip on the swimming, unfortunately i sink more than swim, it's not my strongest area. Luckily we have a very good gym at work with a great rowing machine. I'll give it a workout.

In the meantime i have to ask what type of sneakers are you using?...do you have flat feet or an extra high arch?.....sounds crazy but it really can make a difference

I have a very good pair of Asics running shoes. I used to do a lot of running so always have good shoes. My feet are fairly regular not flat, no high arch. I tend to pronate when running and my right foot tends to stick out to the right a little due to a number of sprained ankles over the years.

Asics are top quality running shoes thats for sure....Maybe an ankle support? every try it?...since you said you have had ankle sprains over the years maybe the muscles are tender...not too much durability for shock....as for skipping rope and all try using your boxing shoes or even bare foot sounds crazy but i know a lot of guys that do it...

Reason why I asked about your feet is because if you wear something with to little or too much arch in them they can cause problems with balance...bad balance causes you to put the extra weight somewhere it is not used to....

Only other opp is see the doc...maybe a podiatrist?

Thanks Daxx. I'm seeing the Doc this afternoon. I'll look into the ankle support that's a good idea, thanks for that. What difference does the boxing shoes or no shoes make with the skipping? I would think that it might make it worse. Have a CC for your help too.

CC back at ya mate...the reason for boxing shoes or no shoes would be that you will be more firm on the ground.....give a better feel and stay on the front ball of your feet more.....keep all presseure off your ankle...when you wear shoes especially running shoes meant to absorb the shock more we don't realize exactly where we are landing as much.....Good luck at the doc

It seems to happen with runners a lot. Problem usually is the tendon between the 2nd and 3rd met on the underside of the foot tighting altering the biomechanics of the foot caused by bad gait usually caused by bad hip alinement. Go and see a good Osteopath Doctors havent a clue.
Pain lasts a only a minute, but the memory will last forever....

Thanks Scrap. You might be onto something there. The 2nd and 3rd toe is where the issue seems to exist and they seem to be further apart than they were before. My hips are out of whack to due to a prolapse disc in the Lumbar region. And I also seem to be a little sideways when i skip b/c of it. I'm going to the Doc to get hopefully an xray or bone scan to check if it is in fact a stress fracture or not. I know a good osteopath too who i've seen for my back, so if the scan or xray shows nothing i'll visit him again. Thanks for the help and have a CC from me.

Not really. Probably will now that I'm thinking about it. Should I be expecting something?
