very close but i think Pernell was just a better boxer than Shane even in his prime.
At least top 5 all time fighter.
he would probably pull out a close but unanimous decision against Mosley.

Shane was as fast and strong a fighter EVER at lightweight. Pernell was a defensive genius...but he never faced a beast like Shane at that weight. It would be a great fight. I could see it going either way.

Shane can be as fast, and as strong as he wants... Whitaker in his prime was too good of a boxer for him... I think Shane would give him some trouble, but Whitaker would catch Mosley more often than he would get hit.

I agree Pernell was the better boxer and technician...but at lightweight...Shane had one punch KO power. Add that to Shane's great speed...and anything can happen.

And Pernell had an amazing chin hell he moved up and took a beating from Trinidad who hits way harder than Mosley, and he kept on ticking. I can't see Mosley landing very many solid punches, and he was so focused at lightweight to land those combinations I think Pernell's movement would give him fits.

Fair enough. But Shane's power and speed at lightweight was unmatched. It's one thing to have great power OR great speed...it's a whole other matter when you have both. Add to that Shane's great chin and heart as well...and i just feel Pernell would be in for a tough fight. Not saying Shane definitely wins, just saying it would be a damn close fight.

Good points Taeth,I have to agree. Pernell frustrates Shane on his way to a UD. Would be an AWESOME fight though.

There have been fighters at LW that could win a decision against Sweat Pea, but at that weight no one was going to BEAT him. It would really depend on the judges and how they score. I'd take Pernell on a 7 rounds to 5 UD. And as far as Mosely's power being unmatched at LW I think a couple of guys like Duran and Oscar might disagree.

Whitaker by UD. Shane was a great fighter at that weight but IMO not even close to Pernell
