    Default How good is Mayweather??

Pretty fucking good if you ask me...

The guy keeps making me look stupid, and right now he is as close to unbeatable as anyone has been since a young Mike Tyson.

I picked Ricky to wear him down but Floyd's speed and accuracy is incredible. I remember on 24/7 Ricky telling the camera he hopes Floyd hits harder than he hits those pads. Well, he does.

Nice to see a little mutual respect at the end as well, and good to see that Ricky retained his sense of humour even though he was obviously hurting.

And there is a thread criticizing Cortez, but I thought the result would have been the same if Dave Parris had refereed. Floyd was certainly using the elbow to fend of Ricky's advances but he does come in recklessly with the head so you can't really hold that against him.

Ricky really doesn't seem to take a punch that well at 147 (Collazo had him staggered and he isn't even a banger)

Now lets make Mayweather/Cotto (so Floyd can make me look stupid again when I back Cotto) and Hatton/Witter at 140.

If you look at the post fight interviews, Floyd really doesn't even look like he's been in a fight. Not a mark on him. Pretty impressive considering many here thought his body would take punishment like nothing he'd seen before. The guy just out Hattoned Ricky Hatton. He's the best, hands down, anyone who says different is just a hater with issues

Not good enough to beat Cotto but PBF is smart enough to retire before he can prove me wrong. Did I say too smart? Maybe I should have said too big of a coward. There, that's better.

Cotto is good, but I don't know if he's that good. He certainly doesn't have the names on his record that Mayweather has.

Call me crazy, but I seriously doubt Bob Arum wants to put Miguel Cotto in the ring with Floyd Mayweather. Arum, like all promoters, is a snake, but he's smart, Cotto is his meal ticket, and nothing damages a fighters marketability more than a loss. It's funny people saying Floyd is ducking certain fighters, when I can guarantee you Arum will not try his absolute hardest to make this fight happen, as all signs point to Cotto most likely losing. He'll almost certainly try to angle a bout with the Williams-Crinton winner before sending his fighter up against Floyd, and of course, he'll try to spin it as if Floyd is ducking his fighter.

lol@all the Cotto posts now. I don't think Cotto would even find Floyd in the ring, he'll stalk and stalk and get picked apart. Another easy win for PBF...but of course, some jackass will say...now you have to fight so and so Floyd, then so and so, and then so and so and before you know it he's older, slower, and gets knocked out by some lucky punch.

    Sorry, Mayweather > Cotto.

You have to favor PBF heavily over Cotto, but it was Hatton Floyd KTFO tonight, not Cotto. Cotto has actual skill, has beaten real WW's and packs more of a punch. To put it in perspective, can you imagine the slaughter Mosley-Hatton would be?

top 5 defensive fighter of all time, top 10 most skillful fighter of all time. 100 percent imo he really is a pleasure to watch, i have always said he was unbeatable at Superfeatherweight, now hopefully there won't be so much damn hating.

Watching this fight made me appreciate what ODLH did against Mayweather, as at first I thought the swarming style was the way to beat Floyd. Obviously after watching the fight today, Floyd was able to handle the pressure well, and put on an impressive display. The fight with Oscar is probably the closest that anyone will get to beating Floyd, as the rest of the welters are simply not on the mans level. Though I throughly dislike the style of fighter that Floyd is, as i find almost every one of his fights to be boring, he showed combinations and power today that he hadn't shown in a long time. Congrats to him, but he's still a long ways from being "the best ever" as he stupidly comments

sounds about right mate. He probly creeping into my top 20 p4p of all time if not top 15! Honestly i have nothing but admiration for being able to stop Hatton which no one has obviously come close to before. Not bad for someone who always runs away i spose!

I spend most of my time dealing with boxing history and in my view this concept of best pound for pound fighter is pointless. The phrase was coined to describe one man, Sugar Ray Robinson. I think it is virtually impossible to compare fighters from different eras, however until someone is 135-1 or 220-1 counting his amateur career, before losing his title, and wins the title back in the 137th pro fight I think the phrase should be reserved for what it was intended a description of the great Sugar Ray Robinson.
Like so many facets of our society between 24 hour news and 24 hour sports and 3 year presidential campaigns the media creates a huge vacuum to fill and they fill it by overusing and diluting all praise or disdain. Someone or something is always the greatest of all time, the best pound for pound, the fastest, strongest, the worst, the most tragic, the most talented until the next one comes along.
Here's to the truly remarkable career of Sugar Ray Robinson.
