Depends on how fast you really think you are in an honest assesmet of yourself, the style they teach down there requires alot of speed, youll get murdered doing it if you arent greased lightning

tough but if you're up for it why the hell not? They'll push you for certain and you may end up a punch bag, as an outsider having much to prove make or break you.

Be careful just in general too. There's a research centre in Mexico where people I know have gone to work - i would be interested except apparently for safety reasons everyone spends all their time locked in a compound with really high security in case they end up being part of the white slave trade. I assume some areas are better than others though.

Was a guy in my club back in Japan who was a relative beginner and less than 60 kg who went to train for boxing in Mexico. I didn't get to talk about it much with him but he came back in one piece so I assume he wasn't at risk of getting hurt.

Also as Scrap says be careful of altitude. I went to a high altitude camp for running once and wasn't allowed to run too hard of far for the first week. I felt really lazy but was told I'd get sick if I pushed hard too soon.

They'll have they're work cut out trying to break me LoL. I'm not exceptional but I'm good and strong and never been down in 25 am fights, 10 kick boxing bouts and 5 Muay Thai. LoL they'll have a great time!

Thats actually why it was recommended to me. If i go over there for two months before next years nationals, use the altitude to get to peak and avail of some different training the plan is to be fitter than anyone.

Yeah,a buddy of mine with some dependency issues went to some clinic in Mexico as a rehab, killed him.
But the main thing I was warning against, was the style they teach requires serious speed, otherwise your open, and your barn doors open to jabs and uppercuts, let alone the body.
Its all based on having a lightning jab,you dont have that, youll get eaten up fighting that way

doesn't have to be specifically mexico, cali & san diego have a great mexican boxing community unless you want the altitude work.

San Antone is a far cry from Mexico partner...hot asheck and nice city, but you ain't gonna find the dangers of south of the border(unless you never been to a big city)p.s. everything that crawls on the ground seems to bite or sting real painfully...so don't stay in one place too long unless it is insect free(relatively)

    Yeah i want it all.
For the past month i've been living in hell here. It rains all day every day.
Road work involves splashing through 6 inch deep puddles, cow shit and gravel every morning.
It's eight miles to the gym. Sparring with guys my own age and expierience is out as I want to develop, so i always takes pros and senior internationals.

I want to go somewhere where I can benefit from humidity rather than dampness on my runs.
I want to go somewhere where the traineres will push you till you're fit to burst and I want sparring partners that will huirt me. A close friend and ex pro recommended a particular spot in Mexico. Said I8'd get exactly what I need there.

You'd get it in Oxnard too and if you got respect there you would get contacts further south.
Maybe worth a call by on the way down.

Phone Colonia Gym ask if theres any mexican style fighters around town they of that you can spar with , 930306054.

Actually theres probably grittier ones ,got a mate there, they go south to mexico alot too ,can check for you if you like.

Watch the streets its I hear its no holiday, not as bad as Mexico though.
