Default What do you think of this article?

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I just wanted to get your thoughts on this article below, I've just taken a section of the article:

I think it's a really good peice of writing and captures the feeling and sums up alot with little words.

    What do you reckon?

"Historically, the precedents Hatton most needed to follow had been set by the great lightweight champion Roberto Duran, who had overwhelmed arguably Britain's finest post-war boxer, Kenny Buchanan, in Madison Square Garden and then, as a welterweight in Montreal's Olympic Stadium, waged such effective psychological warfare on the hitherto luminous Sugar Ray Leonard that the man of much greater natural talent found himself fighting another man's fight.

That was Hatton's hope in his remorseless pre-fight questioning of the durability of Mayweather's will.

Unfortunately, there was a missing element; Duran not only talked like a demon, with insults which went to Leonard's very marrow, he also fought like one. When he went into the ring in New York and in Montreal his dark eyes burned like well-lit coals. When Hatton walked to the ring his eyes were pools of something less than conviction; not the outright apprehension that gripped Frank Bruno when he went in against Mike Tyson for a second time, nor that which grew in the much ballyhooed Naseem Hamed when he felt the force and the speed and the sheer determination of his first truly serious opponent, Marco Antonio Barrera, but a dawning of the fact that he had talked his way into something far, far more challenging than anything he had ever faced before.

When Leonard raised his arms, optimistically, in Montreal, Duran was outraged to the point of aiming a kick at his backside. This was a man who had, according to Panamanian legend, once felled a mule with one punch, whose favourite pet was a lion cub, who had persuaded himself he had the measure of the dazzling Sugarman. Hatton made a similar case for himself in regard to Mayweather, but as fight time drew near the difficulties of prosecuting the argument seemed to be written on his face".

I think it's an insult to boxing to even mention Hatton in the same sentence with a great fighter like Duran.

I feel this article and I sort know where you are coming from. I also thought there might be some similarities to Duran/Leonard with Hatton/Mayweather Jr.
Duran was moving up so was Hatton both were facing one of the best of their time. Both were prime.
A few things that were not the same.
Leonard was afraid of Duran like PBF is afraid of Margarito.
Leonard wanted to prove that he could go toe to toe with Duran.
Leonard never ducked 600 times below the waist line. Everytime Hatton moved forward, Floyd would try one shot and then duck below the waist line or just duck below the waist line and end up under Hatton's armpit. Hatton kept repeating the same process over and over again. Looks like Hatton had no plan B.
Leonard did not have any special help from the ref.
The first few rounds I was hollering at the ref to let them fight and or fight out of the clinch or let them fight inside but he was so quick at stopping the action before it got started on the inside. Floyd took advantage of this and was doing a lot of hugging fast on the inside since he already knew Cortez was going to break it up.
People want me to give credit to Floyd for this fight. Not happening.
No credit for his fight against ODLH or Baldomir either. Even he knows those two fights were sad as hell. Just because Floyd knocked out Hatton, I suddendly should be be at awe? I never wanted to see this fight at 147. and when I was against it, people got mad at me. I am not against Cotto/Mayweather at 147 or Williams or Margarito. I think Floyd can beat Cintron and so can Cotto/Williams no need mention Margarito. If Kermit by any chance in hell still has a trinket by the time Floyd comes back from hidding, no doubt Floyd would want to fight Cintron lol

Oh and if you mention Duran/Leonard II. All I can say is Duran was not in this fight and Leonard was just running. I am a huge fan of Leonard but he was not taking any chances and it just looked bad. Duran was never hurt in the second fight. Leonard was just clowning around showboating and Duran just said, I have had enough of this circus. Screw you guys, I'm going home.

If you think Hatton should be compared to Duran that you know less about boxing than I thought you did. Stick to topics you know. Making up Calzaghe lies.

Do i think hatton has the talent duran had? no... but there are many, many ways you can talk about both fighters in the same sentance. Oh no the calzaghe fan boy took a shot at me, lets make face by saying his name... yeah mate i schoold you enough on that, it's getting old, i'm bored of that subject...

it's funny how you made your usual off the mark comment about how it pained me to pick mayweather through and through to beat hatton, even though i have become a massive mayweather fan even before the fight. yet you are the pathetic fan boy who over rates all your latino boys to do things they hardly ever do...

it's pathetic how u pretend to pay respect to a fighter as your two faced ass has with hatto and calzaghe... even tho he destroyed ur boy castillo, and u tried to be big about it, you show your colors like a true spoilt little twat... hatton fought his heart out, i give him stick boxing wise, and i lost most of my respect for him because of his out of the ring antics (i was once a big hatton fan) yet like a child you made as many snide little comments about hatton getting "knocked the fuck out2 as you could after he faced the best p4p fighter on the planet... i bet you wet your self when that happend didn't you? you pathetic fuck.

I am many things, i like most, am over critical of fighters a times, but never pretend to give a fighter his dues only to wait until that moment when he faces a dark time in his career to shoot my mouth off and give it the big one, it's why i view you as a ture peice of shit.

sure i love calzaghe, like the 'ricans love tito... i was born in a country where we were brought up to respect and admire our sporting champions... my love for boxing goes back before i can remember, so if i followed guys like calzaghe from their early days and recognised them then, throw it in my face all you want, honestly... as ofyet you only remind me everytime about how right i have been in everything i have said about them... shame you can;t say the same for your self aye dip shit?

I gave you credit for picking Mayweather. But that's about it. I have no respect for your posts any more. Your a joke. You claim to be a writer, but you can't spell for shit. Jesus Christ the site does have spell check button you know. Not only that your a straight fucking lier. I posted a thread on how "Hopkins had made Calzaghe an offer." You come back with an article on the front page saying you had talked to Calzaghe and there was no offer ever made. That he even got on the computer to see the story himself. What happens a week later? Calzaghe goes public and says there was an offer but it wasn't go enough. LOL. So much for your bullshit lies. Your a disgrace. Saddo should sue your ass for making the forum look bad with your made up stories. Never again will I take any of your posts or articles seriously again. I might read them to make me laugh. But that's about it.
